‘New Girl’ season 2, episode 19 review: Nick and Jess ‘prove it’
Tuesday night’s “New Girl” was a relationship-heavy episode, and while there are probably some people out there that don’t really enjoy the heavy Nick / Jess direction that the show is taking right about now, there are probably others who are lapping this story up … especially after the ending that we had here.
So are these two really together? Both yes and no. They kissed for the second time tonight, but it was ultimately much different than the kiss that they shared the first time around. There was thought put into it on both parties, even though Nick almost demanded it after telling Jess to “prove” that she was not a gold digger after he thought her attraction to him was suddenly based on his improved performance at work, which was in turn inspired by his new boss in Shane who was providing him with a whole score of new benefits.
While these two did kiss, they were interrupted from going all the way for the time being … which is probably a good thing since it was turning out to be one of the angriest scenes that we’ve watched on the show yet. There are still hurdles to jump over, including the fact that things between Nick and Shane at work are probably going to end “very badly” (to use his words).
While this story was something we found to be rather great, the continued plot of Schmidt and Cece was a little tired. The only real moment to us came when Winston told Cece to stop coming around to see Max Greenfield’s character, since it was causing him to go crazy and demand to do such things as own a lionfish. Save for bringing attention to a very rare type of fish, this was just a story that told us something that we already knew.
