‘Glee’ season 4 song spoilers: Hear Darren Criss’ Blaine take on ‘Against All Odds’
If there is one song that “American Idol” has murdered over the course of the past decade, it is the Phil Collins hit “Against All Odds.” We’re not sure that anyone who has ever covered this song has really done it justice … at least until now. We don’t know how he managed to pull it off, but Darren Criss on “Glee” managed to put a defibrillator on these lyrics and shout “clear!” just in time to bring this song back to life.
Is this a guilty pleasure, as fitting the title? We don’t know, since we typically associate the words with something cheesy. We actually thought that this was pretty emotional, as we could see Blaine totally singing this song as a last plea for he and Kurt (Chris Colfer) to eventually work things out. He’s going to be going through even more than usual this week, though, as the truth will also come out that he has been harboring some secret feelings for Sam (Chord Overstreet) for most of the season.
There are going to be a number other interesting covers over the course of the episode, but we’re not really sure that any of them are going to pack anywhere near the same sort of emotional punch. While most of the songs on tap for this week will be fun, the vast majority of the storytelling this week will probably take place during dialogue. Even with this performance, it’s unlikely that Blaine is going to be able to go visit Kurt in the middle of the school year.
What do you think about Criss’ cover: does it actually manage to revive “Against All Odds” somewhat in your mind? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and you can also read about Dianna Agron’s new “mystery project” by heading on over to the link here.

I think Darren did a fabulous job. I love all his performances and agree this one is about Kurt. I also feel like Darren has saved this years Glee. It’s hard to give up the main cast and have replacements.. I sure hope they get back together and Darren goes to NY. We need more Blaine, Kurt, Rachel and Finn next season.

What is not mentioned here, is that Darren played and sang this song “live” on the show…it was recorded from his live performance and NOT in the studio with lip synching as is usually done on the show. He also did the acoustic version of Teenage Dream “live” on “The Break-up”. He is the only person in the cast to have done this; not only once, but twice. There is no autotuning. This is Darren. It shows you how incredibly talented he is. He puts so much of himself into his singing. If you ever have the opportunity to see him perform live, don’t pass it up. He is an incredible entertainer.

What if… Blaine tells Sam about the crush he has on him and Sam just tells him that its okay and that he just misses Kurt and Blaine agrees so Blaine sings this song and Sam calls Kurt, puts him on speaker so Kurt listens to the song and he finally forgives him… The End.
Your Welcome ;)

This song was never really a particular favorite of mine. Until now, that is. Wow, just, wow. Darren gave this song a new soul and purpose. It sounds so raw and honest – you can really feel every lyric. On top of that, the fact that he will be singing it live on the show tonight – chills.
This is, in my opinion, one of his best covers on the show, ever. And that’s saying something. Here’s hoping it does well in the charts, it deserves to be heard outside of Glee. Excellent as usual, Mr Criss!

Perfect for his feelings for Kurt. Hope he shows the same kind of emotion he did in the live version of Teenage Dream. Darren is very talented. Have enjoyed him on Glee this season. Hope the reunion happens this season and not next.

Darren knocked it out of the park yet again. He has been the one factor holding this show together this season, especially since the writers have forgotten who Rachel is and Santana and Kurt have been around so little. The Klaine reunion needs to happen, and fast, we are tired of waiting!

The lyrics are perfect for Kurt. My guess from previews is that Blaine has a dream that Sam has a crush on him (thus wake me up before you go-go), and then he realizes that Kurt is the only one for him and he sings this to Kurt. Darren rules!!

Loved this rendition. Hope it sounds as good on the show. he sang this live for the camera when they shot it with no back track so like Teenage dream the show version could be slightly different.
Nothing beats Darren and A Piano

I am also tired of the unrequited crush storyline. I think these guys make amazing friends (Blaine, Sam, Tina) and they are seniors, they should be ruling that school. However I forgot that the crush keeps Blaine boyfriend free until Kurt is ready to take Blaine back and that seems okay. By the way, will there be a Kurt and Blaine reunion this season?

I, too, hope he is singing to Kurt… This whole Tine/Blaine/Sam stuff is annoying.

Wow! Never once thought that Blaine might be singing this song to Sam. I kind of thought that his cush on Sam was away to not get involved with anyone with Kurt in NY and dating. Blaine’s cush on Sam is his excuse and safe and keeps him boyfriend free and hoping for Kurt to take him back. And if Sam is aware of the cush he probably understands that too. However, Ryan Murphy’s spin on story lines is never what the fans expect or want. The tint in his rose colored glasses is more to the purple than rose.

If Blaine is singing that song for Sam, instead of Kurt, I will literally throw up… jeez, leave the Sam thing alone already.
