‘Mad Men’ season 6: How Elisabeth Moss sees Jon Hamm, Don Draper
Elisabeth Moss has worked with Jon Hamm for six seasons now on “Mad Men,” and all of this time the actress has used to formulate a pretty defined opinion on the actor … as a goofball who everyone else seems to find incredibly handsome.
In some ways, you could see the following comments that Moss made to E!’s Giuliana Rancic while at the Screen Actors Guild Awards as a reflection on Moss’ own character of Peggy Olsen, who is one of the few female characters on the show who does not have a romantic relationship with Hamm’s Don Draper at all. From a personal standpoint, she explains that she really just imagines him more as the sort of guy you look up to rather than someone you want to date:
“He’s just incredibly protective, gives great advice, makes me laugh. But honestly it’s the protectfulness … He would beat someone up for me. I’ve never had a big brother…What better big brother to have than Jon Hamm or Don Draper?!
“I just can’t see [the male sex symbol status]. I get the Don Draper thing, when he’s in the suit, I’m like, ‘Oh! You’re Don Draper! But when he’s Jon, I don’t get it. He’s just goofy Jon!”
Moss and the rest of the “Mad Men” cast are now several episodes deep into season 6 production, and we can tell you that Moss will still have a fairly prominent role despite Peggy leaving SCDP near the end of season 5 in order to join a rival company. She still sees Don as a mentor, and with that we have a hard time imagining her every fully leaving his life.
