NBC’s ‘Smash’ season 2 spoilers: Karen’s (new) mentor
Remember when there were people hoping that Karen and Ivy would form some sort of a friendship by the time that the first season of “Smash” came to a close? Well, that didn’t happen; instead, Megan Hilty’s character went down a pretty dark road as the year progressed, and by the time the final curtain dropped, she was hardly much of a likable character at all.
So are we going to see this sort of trajectory for Ivy continue when the show returns in the new year? We can’t speak on that just yet, but what E! News is reporting is that this time around, Katharine McPhee’s leading lady is going to finally have what she was hoping for in the past collection of episodes: a worthy mentor worth looking up to. That mentor will of course be the Broadway icon played by Jennifer Hudson, who is both joining the show and playing a very key role in it in the new year.
Is it possible that Hudson’s character is going to have an ulterior motive in getting close to Karen? Sure, but we’re not quite sure what it could be at the moment given that she is hardly a wealthy person, and it is not like she has any real clout or say in the production of the Marilyn Monroe musical “Bombshell.” With all of this in mind, it’s hard at the moment to chalk this up as anything more than just a new friendship that will hopefully blossom over the course of the year.
What do you want to see happen on “Smash” season 2, and are you thrilled by the addition of Hudson to the show? If you want to see just what departing character is not even addressed in the show’s February 5 premiere, you can do so over at the link here.

I know nbc are acting like JHud is gonna be a new regular but she’s only in 3 eps of s2 so I don’t think they’re going to develop any friendship too much between her character and Karen.
