‘One Life to Live,’ ‘All My Children’ may be revived … again

We’re not entirely sure how this happened, but somehow, “One Life to Live” and “All My Children” may still somehow have a little bit of life left in the tank. If you remember to last year, they were supposed to be revived as a part of a new online venture brought on Prospect Park, who had secured the rights to both series and also signed the individual cast members to new deals (with a few exceptions here and there). However, the problem was that they struggled to get all of the individual unions on board, in particular because it was so difficult working through all of the issues associated with trying to have a once-popular TV series online.

However, Deadline is reporting that the idea of having these shows air on the internet may not be completely dead, after all. Perhaps in a move sparked by the higher ratings for a number of soaps over the course of the past several months, Prospect Park has revived talks, and even struck a deal with both the DGA and SAG-ACTRA to have the shows work online in the new year. However, there could still be a stumbling block courtesy of unknown negotiations between the WGA and the company.

As for another issue, will soaps on the internet even work? We were nervous about this last year in that much of the series’ viewership is older, and they have not shown the same tendency to watch shows online. In addition to that, you are also putting on shows that have been off the air for at least twelve months, and potentially without several of the cast members that have gone on to do other things.
