‘Dexter’ season 8 debate: Will Yvonne Strahovski return as Hannah McKay?
Usually when you have a show like “Dexter,” it is a tradition for the primary guest stars to turn up for one season and one season only. Just look at Julia Stiles, Jimmy Smits, John Lithgow, or Colin Hanks for evidence of just how this is done. There are only a few examples of an actor appearing and actually staying put for a while, with Desmond Harrington (Quinn) and Aimee Garcia (Jamie) being two of the primary examples.
So is Yvonne Strahovski’s Hannah McKay a one-season kind of girl, or are we poised now to see her return as a major part of the show’s eighth and final season? Well, let’s go back in time here in order to try and best answer this question. Prior to the “Chuck” star’s casting for the role, the initial casting announcement said that this was going to be a role that lasted for potentially both season 7 and the show’s eighth and final go-around. It was clear from the get-go that they were not planning to kill Hannah off during the finale, or have her suddenly disappear into the night.
What they have done instead now is put Hannah in a position where it will be a grave disappointment if she does not return. Typically on this show, the villains are labeled as such because they are going after Dexter. However, this is a case now of someone who specifically wants Deb six feet under so that she and Dexter can possibly be together. In spite of the fact that he locked her up, the fact that Hannah has not ratted him out suggests that there are still feelings there, and she she may still be willing to do what Dexter cannot in order for them to be together.
So while we cannot say that she will be a part of every episode, we would be stunned if we do not see Strahovski at all next season, especially after the plant she “gifted” Dexter in the closing minutes. Was this possibly meant as a parting gift before leaving town, a convenient way to write her off for a while? Sure, but this is the show’s final season coming up, and she is now one of the many loose ends that will have to be dealt with along with Stiles’ Lumen, another love of Dexter’s who is floating around out there.
Do you think we will see Strahovski next season, and do you think we should? If you want to hear some more early details about “Dexter” season 8, you can do so over at the link here.

I do like Hannah and I also liked Lumen. Did not like Rita or Lyla, Rita too needy and Lyla just bad news. I would really like to see Dexter have someone who is there for him through good and bad, someone besides Deb who of course is family, she will always love him no matter what. He needs a mate!!

It’s all going to depend on her availability. I think they’re going to start production earlier than usual for season 8 (February). She mentioned in an interview that she may potentially have a movie role. So as long as that doesn’t interfere I think they’ll be able to sign her for season 8.

i alwaysfelt like lumen needed babysitting from dexter. hannah took care of herself all by herself when she was kidnapped and even managed to escape prison.

i never though i would ship any of dexters relationships after rita death but hallelujah i love me some hannah! she’s not like lumen which is great. lumen was a crutch. dexter is better off when the women in his life make him more efficient. rita’s day to day life always served as a lesson to dexter and made him a more cunning killer. i knew hannah was a keeper when she gave him advice on what to do about isaac. she told him to do the investigation anyway even though he already knew isaac wasa killer. ultimately it benefited him in that isaac found a reason not to kill him and to solicite his help instead. i love hannah i hope she returns. i dont think she’ll return immediately but i hope towards the end of the last season she’ll make a comeback and they can be together. I was thinking the same thing as you @ PTB. debra cant say anything now. they both have killed for survival and to protect dexter.

I was thinking now that Deb has also murdered someone, they can finally have a common ground to stand on. Even if Hannah returns, Deb can’t do much as she herself is a killer now (this is what I hope will turn out between them). Hopefully she returns and get back together with Dexter. Such a lovely couple.
