‘The X Factor’ USA finale rankings: Will Tate Stevens, Carly Rose Sonenclar win?
After weeks of performances, we’ve made it to the end of “The X Factor” USA … and who thought this was going to be the final three at the start of the season? We remember the days when we were hyping up the likes of Lyric 145 and David Correy, and we thought that CeCe Frey was going to bring the same take-no-prisoners attitude to the live shows that she did in the audition rounds.
The truth is that all three of the remaining acts (even Fifth Harmony) could win this season, and it depends on just a few things: vocal quality, song choice, momentum, and possessing that extra dose of personality that makes America want to vote for you. We’re considering all of this in our final rankings for the season, along with of course the voting history thus far.
3. Fifth Harmony (last week: 4)- The girls have had an incredible run, and just for making it this far they have to be commended. They pulled a huge upset in beating out Emblem3 to make it to the finale, and now they have to ask themselves one simple question: what can we do to win? What the remaining three contestants should be doing right now is pandering to the Emblem3 fan base, as we know that they were not that far behind the two leaders here in the voting. With this in mind, their audience could determine the winner of this show depending on where they choose to land.
The secret to Fifth Harmony’s success here is therefore simple: have fun, don’t stick to just ballads, and keep showing off some style and personality. All three acts bring something different to the stage, and they need to play off of that to the best of their ability. We’ve made no secret of our opinion that the ladies won last week’s show by a mile, and they do have the momentum now moving forward.
2. Carly Rose Sonenclar (2) – If we are to be honest, this past week was not a great one for Carly, and there was a part of us that thought that she was going to be sent home over Emblem3. Is she the best singer left this season? By a mile, the answer is yes. But this show is not just about having the best set of pipes.
We don’t know what she needs to do in order to make this happen, but Carly has to speed things up for at least one song this coming week. Her voters are going to be drawn into a lull if she keeps doing ballads, and her high notes are less impressive if you hear them every week. Plus, doing something fast is key to being relevant on the radio after this show is over.
1. Tate Stevens (1) – The voting history over the course of the season suggests that Tate has the best shot at this, and it also helps that he has a great voice and a story that many people in America (especially voters out there who are married or are parents) can relate to: someone who struggled and worked hard to make his dreams come true. This helps him out immensely, since there could be a feeling that he needs the prize money more than the other two acts do.
While the country star has a block behind him, this is in no way a slam dunk for him. It would benefit him to find a way to bring in some additional fans this week, and try to at least show off a different side of country music (perhaps something more bluegrass?) than we have seen thus far. The reason Fifth Harmony did so well last week was because they brought something new to the table (literally) with their performance of “Anything Could Happen.” Playing it safe could get Tate the win, but taking a risk and having it work would make him more of a lock.

I voted for Carly all the way and I’m not in the young crowd agewise anymore, actually have a few years on Tate and yes I do like differant types of music including country, all of Carly’s songs, not rap or opera tho. I agree Tate is good, but Carly truely has more talent. I can also watch and listen to her for hours as another reviewer mentioned. I did not know Tate had been playing all over USA and won events for over 20 years. Who would have known he had that x-tra income from all the whining he did every week and blah blah not knowing if he had a job any longer and on and on! I am no longer a LeAnn fan, absolutely not! Absolutely pathetic what she had done to Carly and what she said afterwards. Carly was very professional through it and I don’t blaim her family for being upset, hell, I’m upset and not even related! Shame on you LeAnn and not even big enough of a person to apologize, instead bad mouth Carly. Carly saved your butt! You should pay Carly the 5 mill. Anyway, here is what I would like to know: Why do we not see the actual number of votes??? This whole show could be rigged, padded, all for ratings, how would we, who are suppose to be the voters know? We never find out or see it as its happening. Suggestion, if the numbers are legit, why cant we see them? Why not, at least on the last night of the showing, the 2 hours, send the final 2 off to a private setting, party or whatever with no one having cell phones, TV or any type of acces to whats going on outside that room. And while they are doing that, why cant we have live TV showing the calls coming in, like the telethons that they have when people call in to donate money but instead would be voting calls coming in and we can actually see the numbers. Why is it kept so hush hush??? They could tell us whoever won right now and probably do – there has to be a way to make it real and live!!! Does anybody agree and wonder the same thing as I am if its even legit or all for ratings???

It amazes me how different people can hear and see the exact same performance and come to polar opposite conclusions about that performance. In most cases, I suspect that no amount of arguing is going to change someones mind once its made up. Having said that – understand that this is my opinion and any kind of bashing you give me will have zero effect – so kindly keep it to yourself.
Carly Rose Sonenclar is my choice. No emotion? No stage presence? Doesn’t connect with the audience? Well, she certainly connects with this member of the audience. Her singing has connected with me every time and usually brings me to tears – something that hasn’t happened in a long time…and judging from what I have read online – people from all over the world have expressed the same feelings. I find everything about her performances to be deeply moving. The vocal presentation – how she uses trills and flourishes – The way she carries herself on the stage – The subtle movements and facial expressions as she sings – The tasteful wardrobe that always seems to fit the song. I see a complete package that is the X Factor. A class act. I don’t see conceit. I don’t hear boring. I don’t see someone who has played it safe. I see an artist that has pushed the envelope for every performance a little be higher – sometimes brilliantly – other times with a bit of a struggle. So what if she bobbles a few notes – that only makes me like her more – she is pushing herself as an artist. What keeps me away from Tate? Being from Texas, I can turn on the radio any moment of the day or night and hear a 100 voices exactly like his singing the exact same kind of songs in exactly the same kind of way with exactly the same kind of back story. I don’t hate him or country music – I’m just ready for something different. That is what Carly Rose brings in my opinion – different. Is she perfect? No, but pretty damned close. Is she marketable? For me she is. Is she better than Tate or 5th Harmony? I think so but I’m not the last word. Good luck to the singer(s) you support. I’m pulling for Carly Rose Sonenclar.

Tate has absolutely no versatility. Every song he has sung has been country, except at judges houses when he tried to turn an r&b song into a country song and failed, and when he tried to turn Bon Jovi into country and also failed. Tate always just does country songs and they all sound the same.
Carly is very versatile. She does NOT just do ballads — she does jazz (eg Feeling Good), indie pop (eg Pumped Up Kicks), pop rock (eg Runaway Baby), dance-pop (eg Broken Hearted), electro pop (eg Good Feeling), R&B (eg It Will Rain), ballads (eg My Heart Will Go On), soul (eg Rolling in the Deep), soft rock (eg Your Song), electronic dance (eg As Long As You Love Me), folk rock (eg If I Were a Boy), rock (eg Imagine), and country (eg How Do I Live). That’s 12 genres. Tate has done 3 genres (country, rock and roll and r&b) and in all of them except country he completely failed, whereas carly nailed all 12 of hers. Fifth Harmony is also really versatile — R&B (eg Impossible), bubblegum pop (eg We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together), pop (eg Skyscraper), ballads (eg Hero), alternative rock (eg I’ll Stand By You), pop rock (eg Stronger), soul (eg Set Fire to the Rain), dance pop (eg Give Your Heart a Break), indie pop (eg Anything Could Happen), and rock (eg Let It Be). That’s 10 genres. All of Tates performances sound the same, and his voice is good but not special. Everyone votes for him because “aww he loves his wife” or “this is last chance to make it in the music industry” or “he works hard” etc. This is a singing competition, not a backstory competition! Besides, Tate has zero stage presence, whereas Carly and especially Fifth Harmony do. And people say that it’s not fair because Carly has Broadway experience etc and yes this is true, but Tate has been touring in bands all across America for 20+ years, whereas Carly has only about 6 years experience. Tate Stevens isn’t even his real name – it’s his stage name!
I know that Tate will probably win (I hope he doesn’t though!) because old Americans are so dumb and they vote for backstory rather than talent.

Carly should win this show if it is called the ‘X Factor’.Tate is great singer but nothing special about him in comparison with other country singers but for Carly,at 13 to display such talent and the best part ,to make every song she sings her own ,this is what we call the X Factor….I do not find any of Carly’s performances boring…her rendition of Rolling In the Deep was also special.Please vote for this super talented young girl…her name is on everyone’s lips around the world from Asia to Europe to South American …….

Carly is terrific but has a voice for Broadway. Tate is not just a singer but a performer and he’s very good at both.
Britney doesn’t compliment Carly’s ability with her song choices either. I like both Carly and Tate but I’d see Tate inconcert but listen to Carly on the radio.

Am super concerned about Carly winning. I mean, what if she wins and they try to turn her into some techno pop act instead of a soulful, R&B, bluesy, and jazzy Broadway-based act that we all love. I mean, what if she becomes like Amaro, with the nose job and songs that do not quite fit her style and vocal ability? I am worried. Should I not vote for sake of not wanting to contribute to potentially turning this 13-year-old powerhouse into the worst “whore of the man” there could be? She is just a sweet young girl, and with that contract she could be at the whim of so many who “know what is best for her.” Selling her out to the techno pop sharks is not what she needs, although it might be what they think she needs to “make money.” Allow her to be true to herself and the riches will come, and more than just monetary riches. I feel for Amaro at this point, as many are calling her a flop, and she has a lot of talent, but ill-marketed; people don’t resonate with her music because her fans et al. feel it’s not her overall, in my opinion.

I would buy a Carly CD surely if she sings bluesy and jazzy soft pop like she has been as opposed to being forced into something else more racey. I am older, not in my twenties, and like ballads and softer music. I would guess that Carly’s current style would appeal mostly to an older crowd that misses the likes of Celine Dion and Sarah McLachlan, as opposed to indulging in the fast-paced techno bubble-gum pop more popular with the younger folks.

I can’t believe the way some Tate fans, many of whom are older, sit on this site and bash a super talented 13 YEAR OLD GIRL. Casting her as a “little drama queen” who’s manipulating us by deliberately concealing her professional past? Wtf is wrong with some of you. There are ways to say you prefer Tate without bashing children. Comment on her stage presence or vocal quality or something of substance.
Anyway, I’m hoping Fifth Harmony can pull this out somehow. I feel like they’ve grown the most and worked harder than anyone left to get here. Forming a new group and being thrust into the spotlight without time to gel is extremely difficult and they have tackled the task with more focus and tenacity each week. They are all strong vocalists, with some such as Dinah even outshining Carly at times. Also, unlike their competitors, there is a gap for an act like them in the market, which ultimately makes them the most commercially viable for the moment.
Tate has an average voice that sounds like half the male singers on country radio…from 10 years ago. Who, in the real world where other country acts exist, is gonna go buy that generic Tate record when you have such unique talents such as Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean dominating the scene. He also has an underwhelming presence on stage that has been compensated for with good song choices attached to heartfelt stories nearly every week. Carly deserves to win too, to an extent. Her voice is astounding–I challenge you to find a 13 year old with better control and pitch. But this isn’t the voice, and we’re trying to find a commercially viable act here. While I can’t wait to one day, buy a Carly song or album, I can’t imagine many of my friends (20-something year olds) giving some 13 year old belter they don’t know a chance at this point in her career.

For everyone complaining about the song choices and staging of Carly’s performances, you have to realize she has little or no say about it right now. Almost every contestant that has been eliminated has complained about the song choices and production, Beatrice complained (A LOT), Page complained, Emblem 3 complained, etc. They are at the mercy of the producers. Carly has said several times that she “just has to trust Britney” when it’s obvious she’s not liking the choice that’s been made for her. Carly has a tremendous amount of stage presence and when she gets to call the shots you will see a whole different side of her. If you listen to whom her musical influences are and who she has said she would like to emulate, like Bruno Mars and the Black Keys, then you would know she doesn’t just want to do ballads. If you’ve seen her youtube videos prior to the xfactor you know she can rock out at the piano (pump up kicks) or get completely immersed in songs like “Little Talks” or “Help, I’m Alive” . Or google “Carly Rose Sonenclar Big Bank” and you will see her command the stage in a theatrical performance. Carly has, by far, the most potential of the remaining acts and when she’s unleashed from the train wreck that is the xfactor you will see her explode. I almost hope she doesn’t win so she won’t be held back and can take flight sooner.

Out of all three acts 5H has THE most potential! I love country music but tate does not bring anything different to country music at all, he may get a record deal but he wont be getting any CMA’s in his career that’s for sure. Carly is a great vocalist but I think she should have stuck to Broadway, I don’t think she has the stage presence needed to be the next big thing. As for 5H they have shown this week that they can do more than just ballads and can have a fun quirky performance and sell records! They have no competition outside of the competition where as carly will be competing with all of the other disney girls who have more personality in their pinky than her.

Alright Bobby S ,nice rebuttal , I do however have some things to add. First of all Carly preformed upbeat songs, at least for my taste, for audition1, boot camp2, and Live show 1… She has preformed songs of all genres including, classic soul, R&B, Pop, as well as others, you can find a full list by typing the songs into google, please do not misunderstand me, I really like Tate, I just believe when it comes down to bare vocals, while taking into account that Carly is only 13, I believe she is better…. I do agree with you that Tate may be a better PERFORMER but I do not think he is a better singer…. To be honest it does not really matter, they will both be signed, I just prefer Carly’s vocals….. And oh @ Piper… Tate’s birth name is Stephen Eatinger, you can find this information on his personal bio on the Xfactor official page.. If you really grew up with him you must not have known him verry well. Sorry!!

I agree with many of the posters, at this point, Carly has no stage presence. I, for one, do not attend concerts so her stage presence will not be a factor in my listening enjoyment for much longer. As for vocal quality, which is what will interest me when it comes to buying music, she totally blows the competition away. As L.A Reid said, she is just ‘insanely talented’. Tate is good, but he’s a little run-of-the-mill. Unfortunately, the thing about country singers is that it’s much harder for them to ‘stand out’ among their peers because their songs and even their styles so closely resemble each other. It doesn’t matter to me who wins, Carly will have a career with or without the help of X-Factor. I wish them all the best of luck.

Will1, if you had done that same amount of research on Carly that you did to Tate, you would have read that she’s been on broadway numerous times and has appeared on the electric company a few times too. She already has a career waiting if she loses and she’ll get the big dream anyways. But Tate is the most deserving by far.

It should be Tate! I don’t want to jynx anything, but it has to be him. Everyone is too amazed with Carly’s vocals to realize that she has absolutely no stage presence or personality. She always seems nervous when she performs and every week the only thing she’s done with the stage is start off in the centre and slowly walk towards the judges throughout the course of the song… Like, c’mon, you’re 13 Carly! Show us the fun energetic teen we want to see! Plus, as mentioned in the article, she plays it safe every week. In the first live shows (Good Feelin’) I thought it was great! But she didn’t feel comfortable with it. Since week 2, it’s been the same old same old. Every other contestant has been challenged with ballads/up tempo tunes while she’s stuck with the vocal showcasing performances because she doesn’t like to sing any other songs but those strong powerful ones. I think for us as viewers to know that she has the X Factor, we need to see that she can take risks and use the stage to her advantage like every one else does, which she has not. She has shown that she has a good voice, but not the X factor. Tate on the other hand, and fifth harmony to some extent, have great stage presence and are very personable. I know that all 3 acts will be signed in no time after the show is over, but I would rather see Tate win the 5 mil and kick start his career.

Carly is good I feel too young right now to be winner her parents should realize what this pressure would do to her.She’s getting good exposure now to prepare her for when she would be better prepared for the pressure. Tate has the voice the showmanship and is old enough to handle the pressure

Dalton-Your tone deaf and full of crap…I agree…She is an amazing 13yr old that has talent, but she needs to grow, you can obviously see and hear it when she performs, I know, I’ve been a musician for 25 years played in 2 bands, I know what I hear…The Fifth Harmony group can sing and some of them sings better than Carly… Tate Stevens is the full package and that means X-FACTOR WINNER

For 1 year after 6-8 years active musician, and allways use the words, this is for my wife in every performence.
For me that is begging for votes.

Sannoz- Yes I did know know that about Tate, and Tate is being real on the show…BEING HUMAN AND HONEST, He’s not doing that to buy our votes..Everyone has a story on the x-factor, going through bad times, if you were paying attention..Plus Carly didn’t reveal any of her professional background, neither did her parents..and Tate did…he told his professional and personal stories..

Tate is the best entertainer and personality on the show. He will DEFINITELY win if the people who VOTE have EARS and BRAINS. Carly simply does the same thing, same boring ballads with the same BORING vocal licks over and over again. “Tate Sucks”…why don’t you go put on the latest Justin Beeber album, slip on your PJ’s and Furry Slippers and go ask your MOM to explain it to you!

Yoi know Tate Steven been leadsinger for Outlaw Junckies 2005-2011, Toruing all over Usa and made recordings,
They even won awards!
He even made solo records back in 1996
So his Sob story just is just to try to get votes.
Carly has been a child actress, really not the same tbh.

Britney is so emotionless and i feel that she still needs some experience. She has made Carly too predictable and she ruined Diamond by picking bad songs for her. more importantly, she shows absolutely no emotion towards her acts. after top 6, demi was in tears that cece was leaving. britney just stood with her hands behind her back when diamond left. simon threw away 15 million dollars by hiring her. Tate and fifth harmony could win because they are all talented but simon and la could be able to give them the perfect songs to win

Tate is the “best” that I’ve ever seen on any of the 3 music shows and I do mean “ever”….I’ve been watching Idol since season 1 and the voice and the X Factor and I’ve never seen a complete, natural, more talented individual with such an awesome voice as Tate. This man is more than ready and more than deserves this win and career :) Go Tate!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok Will 1 I’m going to rebutal your comment… Carly is a talented 13 year old for her age, that is it… Carly is predictable when she performs, the same slow ballads, she has not sang a upbeat song yet. Last performance she had problems singing and playing the piano,and she felt uncomfortable. Also she can’t sing the high notes.She is not worth a 5 mil contract, she’s suited more for Disney or Nickelodeon.
On Tate: If you were paying any attention… Since the audition until presently, Tate has sang R&B, ROCK&ROLL, Country ballads and Country upbeat songs, he has done enough to win and he has been the most entertaining performer and best vocally.
Carly will have her time and make it big, she will grow into a superstar, she already has a career, i guess maybe you didn’t know that, it has never been revealed on x-factor

Alright I know that most people’s minds are made up, but please take a second and listen.. Vocally Carly blows Tate out of the water, I mean that really is the truth, and this is a singing competition. A lot of people say that Tate is more deserving then Carly but that is not as true as you may think… Tate has toured in many small bands and been the opening act for many big acts so technically he has even more exposure then Carly…. He tries to sale you on the idea that he may not have a job to go back to, which is completely untrue… Weather he wins or not he will be contracted not to mention the fact that he has the backing of his entire community so there really will always be a job available. Did I mention that Tate Stevens is not even his real name it is just a stage name. I do respect the man but “Tate Stevens ” is a persona, something that people can relate to, it helps him get more votes. Carly is just what she seems, a 13 year old girl that has a big dream, a dream in which we have the power to make come true.. In a singing contest she is the better singer. I really hope this makes ya’ll think.. That is all I want

From the looks of it, clearly 5H fans don’t read these articles a lot! I really think people are underestimating their huge fanbase that has skyrocketed over the past week. I actually have them as the winner considering the momentum they are carrying. Another performance like”anything can happen” will surely seal the deal for them. I see the most movement through social media everyday and their fans are prepared to vote like crazy. They were also trending worldwide today.

Tate is a good singer but to me all his songs sound alike. I have to be honest and country music does not do it for me. Carly is my choice. I really see her more like Kelly Clarkson, bridging the gap between multiple generations. While I know tate Could use the money, I am confident he will be picked up by country label and will be very successful. But for my taste and my wallet, Carly has the songs I will purchase

A lot of people have said that Tate only brings in older aged fans and votes, not true at all. I’m 16, and completely love Tate. He is exactly what this competition is looking for, I hope the viewers this week will see that he’s the most deserving of winning. Fifth Harmony, cute but boring. Carly, great voice but it isn’t necessarily fair that she’s had exposure on broadway already, she has an edge that not everyone has. Tate however, absolutely deserves it. He entertains me, his voice gets better and better each week. He hasn’t bored me at all. Win or no win, he already has a career set out for him.

The biggest problem Carly Rose has is Birttney Spears. Her song choices, particularly “Imagine” have spelled disaster. Wonder how much time and effort Brittney spent coming up with it. Anyone watching the last episode with the results can see that Brittney is totally out of it. All the other mentors were either celebrating with or consoling their mentees. Brittney stands frozen to the spot, not even a smile! Carly looks at her for some reaction and gets nothing. For this shes being paid $15 million? Disgraceful!

I agree! Carly is a great singer, but I would be bored seeing her live. All of the songs she sings are slow, and Tate does it all! I would love to see Tate live, and if he ever comes to Michigan or anywhere near, I will buy the best tickets I can!
