‘Supernatural’ season 8 spoilers: New faces to meet Sam and Dean

Sadly, we are going to be without some more new “Supernatural” season 8 episodes until the show returns to The CW for more on January 16.. Does finding out some more information about new characters more than make up for it? We hope so.

According to a new report from SpoilerTV, the upcoming 15th episode of the season is going to be entitled “Man’s Best Friend with Benefits,” which is a rather cool way to title an episode in itself. In addition to that, we also now know a few other welcome tidbits when it comes to characters. One of the new faces we are going to meet here is a detective named James who has a bit of a dark secret that he is hiding … in addition to the fact that he is a wiccan.

The other character we are going to meet here is a woman by the name of Portia, and this is where things get a little bit weird: she is James’ lover, but she is also the human form of his dog. We all know that dogs are man’s best friend, but this takes that whole notion to a new (and incredibly weird) level. She is also going to be the one who brings Sam and Dean into the fold on a case.

On the surface this episode sounds like it will be a standalone hour, and we are not so much opposed to that. While their found-footage hour earlier this year was pretty terrible, we are still okay with the idea of watching some hours that stretch the mold of what an hour of “Supernatural” can be. We are also fine with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles having a little more time to rest after eight years, especially since they are the only two actors with more than a hundred episodes to their name.
