‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 winter finale review: Klaus gets his mojo back

How you choose to remember the season 4 midseason finale of “The Vampire Diaries” Thursday night is probably going to depend largely on one thing: what characters from the hit CW show you tend to appreciate the most. If you are a fan of Damon and Elena, there was really quite a bit to like there. However, we still just can’t get ourselves away from just how crazy-horrible Klaus was to everyone that Tyler Lockwood loves this week.

The casualties this week were catastrophic for Michael Trevino’s character and he is going to be forced to grow up very quickly. Not only did Klaus kill off all of Tyler’s pack of reformed hybrids, but he punished him for his rebellion even further by also killing his mother. Just how many members of the Lockwood family are destined to die on this show? We don’t know the answer to that just yet, but we don’t know how many more people Tyler has in his life left to take. These killings were possibly the most violent things ever seen on the show, but they were done in just a horrifying way that it was rather glorious.

As for Elena and Damon, the good news is that the sire bond is broken! As it turns out, the two now have an opportunity to be together if they really want to … and we don’t think that they are going to be able to stay away from each other even while they try to respect the feelings of Stefan. Speaking of which, Paul Wesley’s character did end up learning about just what Elena and Damon have been up to, and it’s safe to say that he is pretty heartbroken. (The only bigger mystery out there now is just how Caroline is going to feel when she realizes just what Klaus, who was beautifully acted this week, has done.)
