‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder on hopes for Damon

Are we actually going to be seeing plenty more of “Delena” as a couple on “The Vampire Diaries” season 4? If we are basing it solely on the comments of one Ian Somerhalder, you have to be rather hopeful that there is going to be some good stuff coming up in the near future … possibly beginning with the winter finale for the CW series that will be airing now in just a matter of hours.

Speaking in a new interview with TV Guide leading up to the show’s winter finale airing on Thursday night, the actor did his best to explain his hopes to have his character along with Nina Dobrev’s Elena stay together for a little while, even if their story is rather complicated at the moment courtesy of a certain sire bond keeping Elena from really being able to fully express her feelings for her current love interest:

“I think it’s good for the story: If Elena is with Damon, this sire bond is always an issue; plus, his brother’s really angry. So until both of them know if it’s true love, they’ve decided they’re not going to sleep together again. There will be more romance and less sex. Damon wants to do the right thing, but losing Elena is not an option. It’s a tough predicament for him.”

Somerhalder also in this interview hilariously danced around a question about his real-life relationship with Dobrev, saying that he would only talk about his character’s feelings for Elena and not any feelings that he may have for the actresses playing her. These two have been dating now for well over a year, but it’s rather nice to see them continuing to find a way to keep something for themselves in what is very much a tabloid-driven world fixated on celebrity.
