‘The X Factor’ UK: Little Mix member lays into Christopher Maloney

Christopher Maloney is now not just getting it from the members of the “X Factor” UK judging panel, as some of the show’s former contestants have also taken it upon themselves to also go after the man who has amazingly stayed in the competition far longer than anyone would have envisioned him doing so.

Take for instance Jesy Nelson, one of the members of Little Mix who suggested to the Daily Mirror that the contestant, whose story has largely consisted of nerves and trying to get comfortable on stage, is not all that he seems:

“Poor Gary, clinging on to Ma-phoney.  We’re not fans … I don’t really get it and I don’t know who is going to buy his music. I guess ‘each to their own’. But I can’t see that he’s going to become a pop star.”

The interesting part of Christopher’s story, though, is how out of touch much of the British press seems to be with why this guy is going through week after week, even to the point where he is now in the top six.  While he is someone that the average person can relate to, he’s not some young person who is a natural on stage; instead, he is a Liverpool man with a regular job who is trying to make a dream come true. His song choices may not be current, but they are something else that matters immensely: they are nostalgic, and make voters think back to happier times in their lives. (Remember, the voting public, especially when you have to pay to call in, is not all teenage girls.)

Christopher came on the show as a wild card after Gary Barlow originally cut him from his team, but has yet to be in the bottom two once … and this is with being placed often at times in the show where voters tend to forget about you.
