‘Gossip Girl’ season 6 spoilers: Is a series finale hint in new episode?

Over the past few weeks, a great deal of “Gossip Girl” season 6 chatter has revolved around a tabloid photo floating around the internet from the show’s series finale taping, one showing (massive spoiler alert!) a wedding between none other than Serena and Dan. But was this really happening just as the photos suggested? It has been well-documented over the years that many showrunners like to film fake scenes in order to trick the paparazzi, and co-creator Josh Schwartz even said that the show did film a few of these scenes for this particular reason.

However, the latest synopsis released by The CW for the December 3 episode “It’s Really Complicated” has been released, and this does at least make it appear as though these two characters are romantically involved again (to the possible joy / disdain of fans everywhere):

“Serena (Blake Lively) and Dan (Penn Badgley) decide to throw their first Thanksgiving together, inviting only their closest friends, but everyone seems to have their own agenda for attending. Feeling defeated by his father (guest star Robert John Burke), Chuck (Ed Westwick) begins a downward spiral, leaving Blair (Leighton Meester) to find a solution to his problems. Meanwhile, Dan has written his latest exposé, but he must make a tough decision whether to publish it, knowing it could destroy a close friendship.”

Even if Serena and Dan have found a way to rush back to each other’s occasionally-selfish arms, you do also still have to consider the fact that the two characters’ “wedding” could still be a dream sequence or some other sort of red herring. After all, isn’t three episodes a little too short of span of time to go from not being together to being married? Even if there is a time jump in there, it’s still not much time for viewers to process anything.
