9-1-1 season 3 episode 7 spoilers: The Athena origin story

Next week on 9-1-1 season 3 episode 7, we have a chance to check out an episode that we have long been awaiting in “Athena Begins.” You’ve come to know Angela Bassett’s character quite well, but this is a chance where everything changes. This is where you could end up learning so much more about her than what you did previously.

We don’t think that this episode is necessarily out to fundamentally change everything when it comes to what we know about Angela Bassett’s character. It’s more of an extension, an acknowledgement of who she’s been and how that makes her who she is. There will be an important story in the present, but rest assured that it’s also going to be linked to her past. Shouldn’t this prove to be entertaining? As a longtime Athena fan, we have to think that this will be one of the stronger stories we’re going to have during the third season.

This is an episode that should give us plenty of reasons to smile. After all, it’s a spotlight episode for a main character and also one that should deliver a crackerjack performance for Bassett. As we near the end of the calendar year, we imagine that some of the stories are going to escalate. We know that the 9-1-1 Lone Star spin-off is going to take over the timeslot once we get to the new year, so there will be a small moment for everyone to catch their breath … but probably also worry about the future of at least a couple of characters.
