NBC’s ‘Community’ creator Dan Harmon returns to TV on Adult Swim

You can’t keep Dan Harmon down for long. Only a mere matter of months after he was unceremoniously dropped from “Community” over following all sorts of claims regarding Chevy Chase, the budget, and other issues behind the scenes that are by and large unsubstantiated, we now know for sure that a project executive-produced by the man is now coming to TV.

According to Deadline, the new animated series “Rick & Morty,” whcih follows a genius grandfather and his grandson (who can not exactly be described the same exact way) has been given a series order, with the first episode being set to premiere at some point in 2014. Harmon is executive-producing this series alongside Justin Rolland, and it is not currently clear just how deeply involved he will be in the day-to-day production of the series (as in who will be the primary showrunner behind the scenes).

This is not the only project that Harmon has in development, as he is also working on a pair of other comedy pilots that are believed to take a somewhat more convention approach than “Community,” which despite its devoted fan base and critical following, has yet to really do much when it comes to getting high ratings. As a matter of fact, most people suggest that season 4 will probably be the last for the show unless it somehow finds a way to boost its audience to new heights (which seems very unlikely given the showrunner change).
