Arrow season 8 episode 3 spoilers: Will Holland’s big return

Arrow season 8 episode 3 is one that we’ve been looking forward to seeing for quite a long time. After all, Thea is back! Willa Holland’s been gone from the show for a while, and even during some of her final seasons on the show, her role was reduced. There was only so much that could be done when her story was constantly flowing in and out of the show.

Now, though, we’re going to have a chance to see some exciting stuff for Thea and Oliver — Holland will recur in the final season, and that means plenty of opportunities in order to learn more about what’s been going on. We’ve gotten some suggestions of Thea’s story through Roy Harper, but there are some loose threads still out there. Those can start to be tied up in this episode, but this is a story that is far from focused on the past. Instead, we’ve got a Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover to look ahead to, and we know that the majority of this season is building up to that. (There is still something more on the other side, but that is currently shrouded in a LOT of mystery.)

WILLA HOLLAND GUEST STARS – Reunited with his sister, Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Thea (guest star Willa Holland) find themselves searching through a familiar maze of catacombs. Meanwhile, John (David Ramsey) and Lyla (guest star Audrey Marie Anderson) partner on a special ops mission. Katie Cassidy directed the episode written by Emilio Ortega Aldrich & Elizabeth Kim (#803). Original airdate 10/29/2019.

Just in reading that synopsis alone, it’s clear how much this show has become a collaborative effort. You have an original cast member in Cassidy directing a story that features the return of another cast member while also bringing back John Diggle’s longtime love interest in Lyla — someone who should have a big role to play leading into the crossover … albeit in a very different sort of way. The fact that so many Arrow cast members are eager to try new things and take risks in season 8 proves how much these people care about the show.
