Is Jessica Lu leaving God Friended Me, Joy character for good?
Let’s start with the main event at the end of tonight’s episode: Joy heading back to Chicago after seeing her daughter, recognizing that she was okay, and helping her find an element of her own roots. That was her friend suggestion and after doing this, she recognized that she had a chance to go and get her life back. The work that she had done in the Big Apple was complete.

With this in mind, we feel as though we’ve reached the end of the road for Joy as a character — at least for the time being. We wouldn’t say never to the idea of her coming back down the road, but we’re not quite there just yet. We think that she will be gone for a while, and her story arc overall was designed to show Miles that there are so many different ways to help people. Even though she was the one getting the friend suggestions, you can almost make the argument that this was the God Account giving him a friend suggestion in its own unique way. The suggestions eventually led to Joy getting the suggestion of her daughter and following that, Miles started to get some suggestions of his own again.
For now, it seems as though the CBS story is returning to normal … or at least however normal it is going to be in the long-term.
In the end, Lu was never billed as anything more than a guest star. This arc was always destined to end … or at least pause for the time being.
