Is Last Week Tonight with John Oliver new tonight on HBO? Missing out
With that said, we won’t wait too long before going ahead and handing out the not-so-great news: There is no Last Week Tonight on the air. Why is that? It has a little something to do with the numbers of episodes that are ordered and the predetermined schedule — that’s it. Yet, you cannot help but think on some level that this is somewhat of a wasted opportunity ratings-wise. Think about it. Tonight on HBO, you are going to get a chance to see the premiere of Watchmen, one of the most-anticipated series of the year and one of the shows that the network is really looking at to fill one of the voids left by Game of Thrones. No one show can do it directly, so it’s going to be a bit of a team effort with this show, Westworld, and also potentially a Game of Thrones prequel working overtime to make some good stuff happen. Imagine the ratings that could’ve been had tonight!
Yet, we’re aware that Last Week Tonight has already been renewed for some time already. It doesn’t need any other sort of substantial ratings boost.
The other obvious not-so-great news right now is that with Last Week Tonight off the air, we aren’t going to have an opportunity to see the host take on more subjects related to the Democratic nomination process or the President and Ukraine — we know that there are a LOT of discussions to be had on these subjects! Granted, that may be one of the reasons why it’s okay to be patient for a little while. We don’t get the sense that there is going to be a resolution to anything for a quite a while, so Oliver is going to have ample opportunity to discuss such matters. We’re not at the level to revisit impeachment yet, and the Democratic field may still need to be narrowed down a little bit for it to get the love it deserves as a segment.
