The Affair season 5 episode 7 preview: Noah, Whitney head to Montauk

Next week on The Affair season 5 episode 7, we are going to see the series move around a little more when it comes to time. Tonight, we saw the writers shift things over to the future, one where we got a chance to understand a little more about Joanie and why she is the person that she is. Moving forward, we’re going to be back to the present … though Montauk is going to continue to serve as a setting in both timelines.

So what’s happening next? We’ll see the city serve as the setting for Whitney’s upcoming wedding; we want to believe that there will be some happiness for her there, but we can’t feel altogether sure based on everything that transpired already with her. She’s already gone to extremes to make more money, including linking back up with her ex in order to find herself a better gallery position.

Noah and Whitney travel to Montauk, N.Y. to begin planning the wedding; Noah gets a concerning call; armed with new information about her mother’s death, Joanie confronts a stranger.

The future storyline may serve as a chance to see that confrontation that has been hyped up a number of different times this season. At some point, we’re going to see Joanie approach Benjamin Cruz with some key questions as to who he was and why Cole was so transfixed on him following the death of Allison. We know a few things about his mental state in the years that followed the incident — he was never able to move on, and he could never fully wrap his head around some of what happened.

With Cole now dead, what we are looking at here is that this is a chance for Joanie to get closure for herself. For Noah, meanwhile, he just wants to see his daughter happy — these stories may not be linked directly, but thematically, it’s certainly possible they could be.
