Killjoys season 6: Is Syfy series renewed? Will it ever happen?
Unfortunately, tonight’s big episode (and showdown between Dutch and The Lady) is meant to be the last installment of the series. This is not a decision that should come as much of a shock, given that it’s one that has been brewing for quite some time now. Back when the series was renewed for a fourth and fifth season, the indication way back when was that this would mark the end of the series. It’s one that came with a lot of consideration, and the writers have had the time necessary to come up with what may serve as a proper end to the series.
Of course, we’re sure that none of this will stop anyone from clamoring to get more Killjoys down the road, and we don’t even think that it should. Why would someone want to end something that has been such a source of great imagination? The problem comes via the ratings — if this wasn’t previously announced as the final season, there was a chance that Killjoys could have been canceled outright in the first place. This season has averaged just under a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just over 300,000 total live viewers, which are both decreases of more than 25% from the season 4 averages. Meanwhile, the season 4 numbers were down more than 30% in both measurements from season 3. This is a show that has been on a ratings downturn for a while — there may be fewer total viewers watching, or at the very least, there are fewer total viewers choosing to watch live.
So, in the end, we would just advise to watch the finale tonight expecting it to be the end of the road. Don’t have super-high hopes that it’s going to move into anything else — after all, it’s better sometimes to have that sense of closure. After that point, you can just imagine that all of these characters will be off somewhere else, enjoying their lives and being rather happy.
