The Crown season 3 teaser: Elizabeth reflects on her reign so far
In the video below, you can see the new version of Queen Elizabeth (played here by Olivia Colman) take a look at images chronicling her early days on the throne — you know, back when she was played by Claire Foy. It’s also interesting to hear her juxtaposition for how she looks now (an “old bat,” in her words) as opposed to now (a “settled sovereign,” in someone else’s words). She’s changed over the years, but with those changes, there are also ways in which she’s gotten wiser and more aware of what it means to hold the title.
Colman is going to play Elizabeth across both seasons 3 and 4 of the Netflix series and through those, you’ll see a number of important stories related to her rule, her family, and a whole lot more. You’ll also see Princess Diana eventually enter the picture — we don’t even need to describe the impact that she has on British history.
The Crown is premiering later this year, and we don’t have to tell you that expectations are at present in another stratosphere. The first two seasons of the show were an enormous success story for Netflix — at least in terms of critical acclaim. The streaming service doesn’t release numbers insofar as viewers go, but we get a good sense that this is one of those shows that has true international popularity — that’s not something that they have with all of their other programming. Having subject matter like one of the most famous Monarchs in history almost certainly helps with that. Also, the same goes for having a writer in charge in Peter Morgan who knows the world of the Royal Family so well — he’s chronicled much of it in a way few others have.
With seasons 3 and 4 containing largely the same cast, let’s hope that there is a little bit less of wait this time around between batches of episodes.
