Magnum PI season 2 spoilers: Original series star Larry Manetti to appear
In the first season, the CBS had a chance to bring back the original TC in Roger E. Mosley for a guest spot. Now, they are doing this with the original Rick in Larry Manetti! According to TVLine, Manetti is going to be coming on board in the role of Nicky ‘The Kid’ Demarco, which he’s played for multiple episodes of Hawaii Five-0. On the Magnum reboot, the character is going to help Zach Knighton’s version of Rick set up his new club LaMariana, a spot that could be a good social gathering for the cast moving forward.
In talking about getting a chance to work with Manetti, Knighton had the following to say to the aforementioned publication:
“From the moment I met Larry, he gave me his blessing to give my spin on Rick. We were in love before the end of our first cigar together … I’m so honored and excited that he decided to join us on Magnum — and had to pinch myself when I was watching him perform again behind that piano. People are gonna love to see him back on TV.”
The original Higgins in John Hillerman unfortunately passed away back in 2017; with that, Tom Selleck will be the only core actor from the original Magnum PI who has yet to appear on the new version. Trying to get an appearance from him could prove to be a tall order, and we’re not just saying that because Selleck is tall. Instead, it’s because this show films around the same time as Blue Bloods and the two shows film on opposite ends of the country. The best thing that the producers could hope for, pending some scheduling wizardry, is some sort of satellite cameo — could Frank Reagan be involved in a case somehow via Skype?
Magnum PI season 2 is going to premiere on CBS later this month, and in a new timeslot following Hawaii Five-0. The two, by virtue of scheduling alone, are going to be set up for possible crossovers!
