Outlander season 5 spoilers: Caitriona Balfe tees up story to come

Outlander season 4

If you’re a reader of the Diana Gabaldon book series, you probably have a good sense of what’s coming up on Outlander season 5. The latest batch of episodes are based on The Fiery Cross, and are going to feature the Fraser family trying to stabilize their lives amidst an enormous threat of war. Jamie and Claire have been through conflict before — think in terms of the Battle of Culloden, but this time with a different set of circumstances around it. Claire won’t be returning to another era and, this time around, she’s going to have a lot of her family there with her. Roger and Bree are now with them, they have a baby together, and they’re all going to find a way to make things work for themselves.

Given that Caitriona Balfe has been a part of Outlander from the start, we trust her when she says good things about the story of the show. She is also a producer for the series this year alongside Sam Heughan, so they have more behind-the-scenes input on story than ever before. Speaking to ET Online on the subject of what’s to come, she hyped up the story while also talking about how far along the cast and crew are in filming:

“The season is really really good … Last season was really setting up the fact that the Frasers were in Fraser’s Ridge and that they were starting to settle.

“This year is really about this family coming to terms with a lot of consequences of things that happened last season … But there’s a settled nature to it and I think it’s a really strong, strong season. We’re almost done which is crazy, but I think people are going to be really happy.”

We do recognize that Outlander will be filming until at least October, as Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin will be filming while the rest of the cast is at New York Comic-Con. Odds are, everyone will be done well before the holidays, leaving the editors and post-production crew an opportunity to perfect the episodes leading up to the show’s February premiere. There are some exciting things to come! Beyond that, we know that there is a season 6 still waiting in the wings.
