The Masked Singer season 2 promo: Meet the Thingamajig, Butterfly

The Masked Singer

We were skeptical about how much footage for The Masked Singer season 2 that Fox was going to reveal in advance, and for good reason. Why give your viewers extra time to guess who’s behind the mask? This show is wonderfully addictive, and it’s nice to see in spite of the fact that this is a non-internet show in an internet age. By that, we mean it’s almost better if you don’t read the comments on various videos or Twitter threads, since they often can give things away about performances. This is the perfect “guessing game at home” show.

Yet, in the video below you can learn about the two latest entries in Fox’s singing show in Thingamajig and Butterfly. Who are they? The first performer is (basically) the new version of the Monster. We feel like producers just didn’t want to call him the Monster again so that T-Pain can have the title once and forever. It’s clearly a male performer who is singing a country song from Kacey Musgraves in order to throw people off. It’s not the sort of music you would expect from him.

While we can’t place precisely who this singer is, it does feel like we’ve heard the voice before. We’ve heard Aloe Blacc as a guess, but we think that’s a little too on-the-nose because Aloe does have a natural country tone to his voice.

Meanwhile, the video also gives you a taste of the character the Butterfly, someone who clearly has some vocal training given that this is a very difficult song in order to belt out. Yet, this is one where we’re completely in the dark about. We know that she’s talented, but you maybe hear her sing about approximately eight or nine words before the preview moves onto some other stuff. We’d hardly call that the largest sample size in the world.
