Law & Order: SVU: Is Chris Meloni appearance still possible … eventually?
So, with that in mind, it makes some sense to have some further discussions about it now in light of some new quotes that are out there! There’s long been a hope that it could happen, but the openness seems to be there now more than ever. Yet, it doesn’t seem as though it will be happening for a while.
Want a little more insight that? Speaking via TVLine, executive producer Warren Leight noted that such decisions and negotiations to make it happen would be above his head; yet, at the same time he would greatly champion the move:
“Look: I assume that if some year, some decade, couple decades from now, we get to the last SVU, [Meloni] would have to come back before we do the last episode or before the show signs off … However, I don’t think we’re at that point in the show’s run.”
Consider this another reminder that no one is considering season 21 to be the final one for SVU. While the show is obviously now holding the record for longest-running TV series ever, this is another reminder that this is not the only reason why the show is on the air. It’s more about telling these stories, the heroes of SVU, and continuing to further along the message of what the show represents. These still remain the most important components and, more than likely, will remain the most important components for quite some time still.
On the Meloni front, a source close to the actor gives everyone a little more hope for his future, noting that he “would very much be interested in returning for a five- or six-episode arc when the series ultimately comes to an end to give fans some closure.” The question that we have revolving around this is a creative one — what’s the best way to bring Meloni back and then also have his story matter for a long period of time?
