Legacies season 2 spoilers: Meet a new Mystic Falls Sheriff!

There is a new Sheriff in town on Legacies season 2, and we kind of love the fact that we can use that statement literally and mean it.

According to a new report from TVLine, Bianca Kajlich of Rules of Engagement / Dawson’s Creek fame is going to be recurring through the upcoming season of the supernatural drama as Sheriff Mac, a character that does make us wonder all sorts of things when it comes to Matt Donovan’s status already. She is a single mother and a career woman; the official description notes that the character is “the human line of defense in a town regularly besieged by monsters. Despite a troubled past, she’s willing to open herself up to a new romance when the opportunity arises.” Executive producer Julie Plec has also noted that the new “Sheriff Mac” is a tribute to Marguerite MacIntyre, who played the original iconic Vampire Diaries universe Sheriff in Sheriff Forbes, otherwise known as Caroline’s mother. (We’re still hoping that we’ll have a chance in order to see Sheriff Forbes again on the show moving forward.)

Sheriff Mac is not the only new character within this family we’ll be meeting. We’ve also learned now that Leo Howard (who we will always remember as Sven from Santa Clarita Diet) is going to be appearing as Ethan, Mac’s son and someone who wants to excel in athletics. He is a student at Mystic Falls High School, suggesting that he does not have too many ties (yet) to the supernatural world. Meanwhile, we already reported that Bianca Santos is going to be playing Mac’s daughter and Ethan’s sister Maya. While there’s not too much information out there about the larger story arc for these characters, Plec told the aforementioned publication earlier this year that both Maya and her brother would exhibit some feelings for Hope — another sign, most likely, that they will find themselves roped into the larger world of Legacies soon.

Also, consider this a reminder that Hope probably isn’t going to find herself separated from much of the world she knows and loves forever after the big finale cliffhanger.
