Endeavour season 7 starts filming; first story details!

Endeavour

Are you ready for Endeavour season 7? If you answer that question with a yes … well, you’re still going to have to wait a little while. Filming for the new batch of episodes is now underway!

So what do we know about this batch? It starts with the fact that there are three separate “films” (otherwise known as extended episodes) being produced, and that these episodes are going to be set to air at some point in 2020 on ITV and then also on PBS as a part of their Masterpiece imprint. Meanwhile, ITV also confirmed today that they have also gone ahead and renewed Endeavour for a season 8 — meaning that we’re not anywhere close to the end of the road for the story just yet!

Just in case you’re wondering about what’s coming up now story-wise, the Endeavour season 7 synopsis below carries with it some of the goods:

The new trilogy of films mark Endeavour and his colleagues entering a new decade and era of change. Opening on New Year’s Eve 1970, normal order has been resumed, and the team reunited at Castle Gate CID, with Chief Superintendent Bright back in charge. However, the events of the past year have left their mark, and the new series will see old friendships challenged and new relationships blossom.

In the dawn of women’s liberation, social progression and scientific growth, the 1970s begin for Oxford’s finest with the discovery of a body at the canal towpath on New Year’s Day. With the only clue in the investigation a witness who heard whistling on the night of the crime, the team have their work cut out to uncover their culprit.

With a strong, overarching plot connecting the three films, the seventh series will test Endeavour’s moral compass to breaking point, both personally and professionally.

What you’re going to see within this season is much of what Endeavour as a series does best — provide you great content that is somewhat at the intersection of compelling drama and then also strong mystery. There are of course similarities to some of the other great British police dramas out there, whether it be Death in Paradise, Vera, or Grantchester, which recently wrapped up its run over on PBS. The important thing is that one way or another, they all do manage to excite and entertain.
