Outlander star Sam Heughan cheekily responds to ‘eye candy’ comments
We’ve already written about some of his comments extensively — Hirsch stirred up a lot of controversy in an interview proclaiming that a shirtless Sam as “eye candy” was one of the main reasons for the show’s appeal.
In a post on Twitter today (which we have for you HERE) Sam referenced some of Hirsch’s comments for the first time, joking that he was going to make a line of shirts with “Aye Candy!” emblazoned upon them. Kind of makes sense to us — if someone asks us if we want candy, “aye” is more than likely our general response (if they ask if we want Peanut Butter M&Ms, we just take all of them and run away as fast as possible). It’s a fun way for Sam to reference the controversy, but make no mistake — the real message here is that he’s heard about it. He’s putting his best foot forward and it’s a difficult spot for him to be in. He may recognize that not everyone at Starz shares this same sentiment, but Hirsch’s comments may be transposed by fans as to how the network at large feels.
Meanwhile, Sam also retweeted a message from Colin McFarlane, who laid out beautifully a message from Diana Gabaldon as to what the story is all about. Note that Jamie having his shirt off isn’t explicitly on the list. We don’t think Colin’s message, or the retweet from Sam here, are any coincidence.
Outlander season 5 is premiering on Starz early next year — here’s to hoping that the show brings to the table everything that you can possibly want, whether it be action, drama, romance, history, and many of the other things Gabaldon mentions in her message.
