iZombie season 5 episode 13 spoilers: The series finale showdown

Next week on iZombie season 5 episode 13, you’re going to see more than just your standard episode of the show. You’re going to see the series finale. After all of the cases, all of the different brains that Liv as devoured, and all of the wonderful character stories, we’re going to see a conclusion that is dramatic, intense, and hopefully still worthy of a smile. Also, let’s hope that it’s less polarizing than the recent finale of another Rob Thomas show in Veronica Mars.

Here’s the difference between the two shows, though — while Thomas seems to be intended for there to be more Veronica Mars following the season 4 finale, the writers of iZombie have known for a while that season 5 was going to be the end of the road. There’s no reason for speculation or questioning when it comes to the subject of the series. Instead, all we’ve had is

SERIES FINALE – The human versus zombie war finally comes to a head. Rose McIver, Rahul Kohli, Malcolm Goodwin, Robert Buckley, David Anders, Aly Michalka and Bryce Hodgson also star. Jason Bloom directed the episode written by Rob Thomas (#513). Original airdate 8/1/2019.

We’re going to enter this episode with the mindset that there will be a few things that happen that we really don’t expect. We’re also going into it hoping that there is some resolution of everything that’s going down with humans and zombies. While we know that there are some shows out there that benefit from an open-ended cliffhanger, we don’t think that this is one of them. This is an instance of one where all loose ends should be tied up so that we can depart the story with some sort of smile on our face. Is that too much to ask?

In just one week’s time, we’ll see everything play out. For now, though, we’re grateful to the entirety of the cast and crew for bringing us on this journey in the first place.
