The Walking Dead season 10 spoilers: Will we visit the Commonwealth?
At the end of season 9, what we saw was a Ham Radio message come through that may have dropped a clue or two that there is someone out there trying to communicate with the Hilltop — and it could end up leading into one of the largest stories out there within the comic franchise. The Commonwealth is one of the largest communities that is known about within the world of The Walking Dead, one that is sprawling and at least functions closer to a normal society. There have been suggestions that we could be seeing it eventually over time, but nothing has been confirmed — and at the moment.
While executive producer Angela Kang wouldn’t confirm anything about the Commonwealth story, she did make it clear via Entertainment Weekly that this story (which will be tied to Eugene on the show, just like it is in the comics) will be something that plays out over time:
“This will definitely be a part of the season … It’s part of the fun mystery of the season, and it will come into play in hopefully interesting ways that turn the story. I can’t tip too much about, but I think there’s some fun to be had there.”
How this entire story builds could be integral to setting up whatever the endgame for this season is — and possibly even the series as a whole! With this show entering a decade’s worth of time on the air, it has to start thinking now and more about how it’s going to wind down. We know that Andrew Lincoln is already gone, and with the talk about Danai Gurira saying goodbye (watch our video below for more on that, and subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube / visit our show playlist), this isn’t going to be the same Walking Dead it once was. This is the time for the producers to start thinking about what sort of note they want to end the show on … and what they want the tone to be. We’d love to see the Commonwealth, but if it’s going to happen, the writers gotta move quickly.
