Law & Order: SVU season 21: Mariska Hargitay, cast have first table read!
In a new post on Twitter, the writers room confirmed (with images!) that the entire cast is back together — led of course by Mariska Hargitay. Filming will be starting up shortly on the other side of this, and we really love that the entire group seemed to gather within the SVU courtroom set in order to make the table read happen. There’s another dose of irony here in that we don’t know at present who the new ADA is going to be — Philip Winchester departed at the end of season 20 and now that spot is vacant. There’s been a lot of turnover there but we hope that returning showrunner Warren Leight has some good ideas for what to do with that spot.
Leight’s experience on SVU is a wonderful thing for the show since it gives them someone from the jump who knows the show and did some fantastic episodes in the past. The question is what sort of big event will come our way within the premiere episode, given that this is SVU and you have to think that they’re going to kick things off in as big and dramatic a fashion as possible.
Filming on SVU season 21 will run from this month leading all the way to the spring — hopefully, we’ll know about a season 22 by around the time season 21 wraps. This season, the show sets the mark for the longest-running primetime drama series in terms of seasons on the air — it’s one of those records that you really thought could’ve stood the test of time forever once Gunsmoke and the original Law & Order had it, but SVU just continues to power through and deliver material that is topical, emotional, and perfectly suited for its audience. Here’s to a great batch of episodes coming up, and also here’s to us getting a little bit more news all about it throughout the next few weeks.
