Queen Sugar season 4 episode 5 preview: Who’s leaving town?

Queen Sugar

As we enter Queen Sugar season 4 episode 5 airing on OWN next week, let’s start with this: Is the blowback from Nova’s book ever going to stop? We really want to have a window into her world, just for the sake of better understanding what she was thinking and if she ever imagined the trial from this one decision was going to go on for so long. Now, think about what’s on the other side of that choice: Hurt feelings, betrayal, and moving into next week’s episode, a career in jeopardy. “Face Speckled” is going to force some tough times on Davis and it’s going to lead to a scramble … but far from the only one that you see within the hour.

Want some more insight on what’s coming up? Then we suggest that you check out the official Queen Sugar season 4 episode 5 synopsis:

Remy reveals he’s leaving town; Davis turns to Charley for advice when Nova’s book impacts his job; Charley and Romero’s clinic is raided by ICE agents; Ralph Angel explains to Blue that they are connected by their souls, not by their blood.

There are a few different things to unpack from this, starting with whether or not Remy’s going to be gone for a long period of time. Dondre Whitfield has been a part of this show for the better part of more than 40 episodes, so we like to think that this means something and we wouldn’t see the character just take off smack in the middle of the season.

Meanwhile, the stories about ICE and Ralph Angel are pressing for many different reasons. With ICE, you have Queen Sugar taking itself in a more topical direction than ever. Immigration is a real talking point in this country and what this show can offer is an opportunity to explore some territory that may not be properly explored otherwise. It can offer a legitimate window into a world and educate people to be proactive in their own communities. With Ralph Angel, this is a story about finding connections and understanding what it means to care about someone. It’s not about past family ties so much as it is the person you are and the family you choose. That is often so much more important than the family you have. Blood can still betray you.
