Shadowhunters, Fuller House, Supergirl top Teen Choice 2019 nominations

The first nominations are in for the 2019 Teen Choice Awards, and these matter if you’re a part of several fandoms. Shadowhunters, potentially in its final year of eligibility, managed to post many notable nods, and they were joined by shows like The Flash, Supergirl, Fuller House, and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists where their future fate is still undecided.

Below, you can take a look at some of the first batch of shows and performers. Note here that there will be more nominations down the road, as the Teen Choice Awards have a tendency to have more categories than you can possibly count. The full show will take place on Sunday, August 11 on Fox — we’ll have more waves of nominees in the weeks to come.

Choice Drama TV Show

Good Trouble
Marvel’s Runaways
Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists
Riverdale
STAR
The Resident

It’s a bold move to have STAR on here, given that Fox already canceled this show after just three seasons and on a massive cliffhanger. Teen Choice has always leaned in the direction of acknowledging shows on the network that broadcast it, but it’s a little bit weird to see them do so when they previously canceled said show.

Choice Drama TV Actor

Adam Huber, Dynasty
Cole Sprouse. Riverdale
Justin Hartley. This Is Us
K.J. Apa, Riverdale
Oliver Stark, 9-1-1
Sterling K. Brown, This Is Us

Choice Drama TV Actress

Camila Mendes, Riverdale
Cierra Ramirez, Good Trouble
Lili Reinhart, Riverdale
Maia Mitchell, Good Trouble
Ryan Destiny, Star
Sofia Carson, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists

Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show

Charmed
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Legacies
Shadowhunters
Supernatural
The 100

Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor

Aubrey Joseph, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger
Bob Morley, The 100
Dominic Sherwood, Shadowhunters
Harry Shum Jr., Shadowhunters
Jared Padalecki, Supernatural
Ross Lynch, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress

Danielle Rose Russell, Legacies
Ellen Page, The Umbrella Academy
Katherine McNamara, Shadowhunters
Kiernan Shipka, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Melonie Diaz, Charmed
Olivia Holt, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger

Isn’t it nice that The Umbrella Academy is in here? We know that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a Netflix show, but we view Umbrella Academy a little differently because it didn’t have a huge network TV audience behind it already like Sabrina did via Riverdale. Umbrella Academy was also based off of comic book source material, but it didn’t stem from the success of another show.

Choice Action TV Show

Arrow
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow
Gotham
MacGyver
Supergirl
The Flash

Basically, putting superhero shows in “Action” rather than “Sci-Fi/Fantasy” allows Teen Choice to nominate more shows people care about. Good on MacGyver for sneaking in here, since last we checked, he doesn’t have any real powers – although the same could be said for Oliver Queen.

Choice Action TV Actor

Ben McKenzie, Gotham
Brandon Routh, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow
Brenton Thwaites, Titans
Grant Gustin, The Flash
Lucas Till, MacGyver
Stephen Amell, Arrow

Choice Action TV Actress

Candice Patton, The Flash
Danielle Panabaker, The Flash
Emily Bett Rickards, Arrow
Gabrielle Union, L.A.’s Finest
Jessica Alba, L.A.’s Finest
Melissa Benoist, Supergirl

Brandon Routh is fantastic, but does anyone else find it weird that he’s got a nomination and Caity Lotz doesn’t for Legends of Tomorrow, given that she is the real lead of this show? Did LA’s Finest really need two nominations here?

Choice Comedy TV Show

black-ish
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Fuller House
Jane the Virgin
One Day at a Time
The Big Bang Theory

Someone’s actually giving One Day at a Time the respect it deserves!

Choice Comedy TV Actor

Andy Samberg, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Anthony Anderson, black-ish
Daniel Radcliffe, Miracle Workers
Jaime Camil, Jane the Virgin
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
Marcel Ruiz, One Day at a Time

Choice Comedy TV Actress

Candace Cameron Bure, Fuller House
Gina Rodriguez, Jane the Virgin
Kaley Cuoco, The Big Bang Theory
Nina Dobrev, Fam
Sarah Hyland, Modern Family
Yara Shahidi, black-ish

Remember all of the years The Vampire Diaries dominated this show with nominations? Nominating Nina Dobrev here feels almost like a legacy nod for that.
