Outlander season 5: New behind the scenes set tease
In a new post on Instagram, the show’s stellar designer Jon Gary Steele shared an image that makes us certainly curious as to what it could be. From our vantage point, we see it almost as some sort of arch — maybe it’s used for a wedding, a gala, or as something ornate to put on either a carriage or something around Fraser’s Ridge. To us, it signifies character and a certain degree of status. In this particular time period, having something like this doesn’t feel like something a person without money would have.
The timing of it, at least if this is a recent photo (it’s possible that Steele took the photo earlier on and just posted), suggests that we won’t be getting our answer until at least a few episodes into the season in the first place. As of the recent Emmy panel in the Los Angeles area, the cast confirmed that they were around two and a half episodes in; at this point, they’re at least a little bit further along.
So what events can you count on seeing in season 5? The Gathering is obviously a big one, and we know that there’s at least one wedding we could be seeing — hence, what makes Steele’s tease a perfect wedding arch. We’re also sure to see plenty of the British Army with the Revolutionary War on the horizon. Given that Steele suggests that we’ll “never guess” what it is, maybe this is not something that is anywhere near as obvious as it first seems. Of course, isn’t that also possible that this is a misdirect in its own way? It doesn’t really matter too much in the end — what does is that Gary and the rest of his team are the best in the business, and there’s all sorts of great stuff awaiting us when season 5 premieres. It may not be happening until early next year, but there is a lot to look forward to.
