The Good Doctor EP lobbies for Freddie Highmore Emmy nomination

We’re currently at a point in the year where shows and performers are being strongly considered for Primetime Emmy Awards — hence, why you are seeing so many campaigns across the internet! A lot of them are worthy, but we’ve certainly made our case already for Freddie Highmore. The star of ABC’s The Good Doctor has already shown himself to be a stellar ambassador for the show both onscreen and off — he’s given his all to the challenging role of Dr. Shaun Murphy and he’s also taken on writing and directing duties behind the scenes. We also feel like being at the top of a call sheet adds another layer of responsibility. People are looking at you almost as a guide for what they should and shouldn’t do on set, and we think that he certainly delivers that, even if at 27 he is younger than many of his colleagues.

We’ve already stated our case for Freddie as an Emmy contender on CarterMatt, but it’s nice to see a number of other people do the same. Take, for example, The Good Doctor executive producer Daniel Dae Kim stating the case for him in a post on Instagram, using a feature piece from Deadline as further evidence. This is the sort of EP that any cast member wants to have, someone who will actively promote the show and champion some of the actors who are on it. Daniel’s an actor himself; he knows the sort of commitment that is required for a role like Shaun Murphy and he’s clearly proud of everything that Freddie has done in order to bring Shaun to life.

So do we think that we’re going to see Shaun get this elusive nomination? It’d be wonderful if he did, but we’ve certainly come to learn at this point not to take anything for granted. He’s still an underdog in terms of the actual odds, and whether it be with this show or Bates Motel, for some reason Emmy voters seem to be asleep at the wheel when it comes to recognizing some of Freddie’s work. We do think that eventually, a moment will come for him to get the love that he deserves; we may just not be there yet, even if we want it to happen.
