Arrow season 8: Who’s been promoted to series regular?

Arrow

As we prepare for Arrow season 8, there’s one more thing to be excited for — a chance to see more of Connor Hawke.

According to a new report from Deadline, Joseph David-Jones has been officially promoted to series regular for the final season of the series on The CW. This basically means that the flash-forward timeline is going to continue to have an important role in the story, and of course it makes us wonder as to whether or not there could be a spin-off with some of these characters coming up.

We actually met the Connor Hawke character for the first time back on Legends of Tomorrow, but in that now-defunct timeline, you saw him really as John Diggle Jr. adopting another name and serving as a new Green Arrow. For Arrow season 7, he was actually an adopted son of John Diggle and Lyla who was biologically the son on Bronze Tiger. There is actually some sort of conflict when it comes to Connor and the adult version of John Jr. in the flash-forwards.

The largest question that we have to wonder is where things are going to go from here with some of these characters. For example, are we getting more towards a final season that is all about legacy? We could make a very clear argument that the story of the entire Arrowverse is at this point about trying to leave behind something great for future generations. It’s about making sure that the entire world doesn’t collapse into ruin.

We’re hoping that this news is going to coincide with some other updates, including the potential return of Shadowhunters favorite Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak. There are, at least hopefully, some more announcements that are going to be coming up in the future. We already know that there is one thing that we’re missing out on for sure, as we are not going to be seeing Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak — it’s possible that she makes some sort of appearance in a series finale, but there’s certainly not anything confirmed at the moment and it’s clear that we are meant to wonder for some time here as to whether or not that is going to actually happen.

Arrow season 8 will premiere on The CW at some point this fall, more than likely October. We imagine there’ll be more news to share before then.
