The Code episode 9 preview: The story of ‘Smoke-Pit’

The code

Another week goes by, and there is still no exact indication as to whether or not The Code is going to return for a season 2. At this point, we’re is shocked as anyone when it comes to the waiting. If you want to view some element of this delay as a silver lining, you can argue that if CBS really wanted to cancel this show, they could have done it feasibly a good while ago. (Most other series were either renewed/canceled a few weeks back.) There’s no real reason for them to handle The Code this way, unless of course, they’re really interested in either burying the cancellation news or they’re trying to figure out whether or not there’s a way to bring it back. We lean towards the latter, mostly because CBS has announced more shocking cancellations early. They may also be trying to avoid a Code Black sort of disaster like they had last year, where they canceled a show far too early and it turned out to perform a little bit better than expected.

Now that we’ve spelled all that out, here is a reminder that there are still a handful of episodes of The Code season 1 to air. That includes next week’s new installment, episode 9, entitled “Smoke-Pit.” What’s going to come up here? It’s yet another difficult case for the team, but it’s difficult for particular reason. For more, just take a look at the official the code episode 9 synopsis below:

“Smoke-Pit” – Abe and Harper’s investigation into a Marine recruiter’s alleged misconduct may be derailed when the key witness refuses to testify, on THE CODE, Monday, June 10 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Is there any one thing we’re hoping to see before The Code comes to a conclusion — at least for the season? Obviously, getting to understand these characters better in terms of their backstory would be very much appreciated, but beyond that specifically, we would like to see more cases and events that snake from one week to the next. We know that this is a show in a tradition kind of similar to most of the other ones on CBS, but it would be fun to see it take almost the SEAL Team sort of approach. With that show, they often do rotate out between case of the week storylines and things that last for a little while longer. It gives you a really good sense of the unpredictability of these characters’ lives. While the people on The Code obviously are living in a very different sort of situation than Jason Hayes and everyone within Bravo Team, we imagine that when they take on a case, they have no way of knowing for certain just how long it’s going to last. That’s quite a challenge.
