Is The Enemy Within new tonight on NBC? Renewal / cancellation limbo
Unfortunately, we’re now left to sit here and wonder just what’s going to be coming up … if there is going to be anything coming up. Abby’s, The Enemy Within, and The Village are three of the shows that are still in a certain degree of limbo over at NBC, and we’re rather surprised in some ways that the fates of all of them have not been formally deciding on just yet. We honestly thought that they would be over Memorial Day Weekend — if anything, consider the lack of news almost good news is that this would’ve been the perfect time to bury some bad cancellation news if that was the end goal for the folks over at the network.

So what exactly is the network waiting on at the moment? If we had to guess, we’d wager it has something to do with the DVR ratings for the final episode, just to get a larger sense of the full viewership that is out there. We don’t exactly think that all three of these shows are going to survive, but we do think one or two of them could. From our perspective, the easiest series to save is probably The Enemy Within, mostly due to the fact that it has such big-name leads and we think that it’s a story that can be built upon rather well. Season 1 didn’t necessarily have an enormous cliffhanger, but it did offer up that excellent tease that maybe, there is a larger entity out there who was working with Tal for the entire series. That’s at least an interesting foundation and something that the writers could almost certainly build on.
Ultimately, we’ll be stuck waiting to see whether or not they get the proper opportunity. We’re hoping for more, and we think that many fans out there certainly deserve more … we just know if we’re actually going to get what we want. We anticipate a decision to be made before the middle of next month; otherwise, NBC runs the risk of having to re-sign much of the talent to new deals and that’s an unnecessary risk. We also don’t foresee anything dramatically changing between mid-June and then a couple of weeks later when it comes to viewership data.
