Outlander notes: Sam Heughan’s whisky, new season 4 DVD tease

Outlander season 4

We know that today, a lot of people are out there talking about a certain premium-cable show not named Outlander … but if you’re an avid reader, you probably know that for one reason or another, we’re always talking about Outlander. Hence, this Sunday notes piece that is focusing in part on Sam Heughan’s whisky to go along with the latest tease from the upcoming season 4 DVD collection.

Let’s start with Sam and whisky, mostly because it feels like a good whisky is something many a person wouldn’t want to wait for if you’re in the same room as it. As you may know, the man behind Jamie Fraser has been working on a whisky for a while through Great Glen Company, and it seems like we’re inching ever closer to the first batch being complete. The video HERE via Sam’s Instagram comes from the first photoshoot he did for the company, which is a pretty good sign that we’re getting closer to some sort of launch.

For Sam to have a line of whisky does certainly make sense, as it falls very much in line with Outlander and the stories that you see within the show. He’s also far from the first actor to get into the beverage business; Arrow star Stephen Amell is one of the main voices behind Nocking Point, and has collaborated with a number of celebrities for various releases including Aisha Tyler — who, ironically, was recently on the Outlander season 5 set. Small world, no?

Sony Pictures TV as a studio is doing a pretty great job of promoting the upcoming collection, and this weekend, the show did their absolute best in order to promote it using a new video tease for an upcoming behind-the-scenes featurette. This one is all about substituting Scotland for North Carolina, and some of the various moves that production made in order to ensure that they could do this. One of the earliest ones was, apparently, executive producer Matthew B. Roberts visiting North Carolina himself so that he could get the lay of the land and properly understand what the terrain looked like, from the crunch of the ground to the way the mountains looked in the distance. Sam Heughan also spent some time in the Blue Ridge reason in order to better acquaint him with some of where Jamie would be living within the show’s fictional world.

Many of these cast of characters are going to all be living within North Carolina when season 5 premieres — as a matter of fact, Fraser’s Ridge is going to become even more populated than it has ever been. With the show inching closer to displaying a version of the Revolutionary War, we presume that some of the production challenges are going to remain, even if most of the cast and crew now has their sea legs.
