New Amsterdam episode 22 (finale) spoilers: The story of ‘Luna’

Next week, the New Amsterdam finale is coming to NBC and already, we find ourselves wondering many things. For example, the title — why “Luna”? Why now? We have to assume that this title is a reference to Max Goodwin’s sister, who tragically died when she was really young. It’s something that obviously lives within his heart and something that he thinks about. Max working at the same place where she died is a way, for him, to help ensure that other brothers, other parents are able to have a better result. It’s always been about Luna for him, at least to a certain extent. It helps to push him to be the best doctor ever. (Luna could end up being the name of Max and Georgia’s daughter … maybe.)

Yet, there are other factors at play now. Max is a guy who has been through a scary health battle this season, and he’s found himself close at points to this season to losing it all. He’s spent so much time working to intently help others that he has forgotten sporadically to be able to help himself. There are others at the hospital also think about entering the finale — you’re also going to have a chance to learn more about where things are for Reynolds in his personal life and then also Sharpe as she does everything that she can in order to help Max.

This is going to be an emotional finale — the title solidifies that.

05/14/2019 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Tuesday) : In the Season One finale, Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) works on a creative way to help Max (Ryan Eggold) and Kapoor (Anupam Kher) gets surprising news. Meanwhile, Reynolds (Jocko Sims) takes a big step in his relationship with Evie (Guest Star Margot Bingham) as one of the doctors makes a life altering decision. Also starring Janet Montgomery as Lauren Bloom and Tyler Labine as Iggy Fromme. Also guest starring Lisa O’Hare as Georgia Goodwin and Dierdre Friel as Ella. TV-14 V

Will the story come full circle in the finale? You have to imagine that it’s possible … but there’s going to be something left over for a season 2. Given that this was renewed so long in the past, that basically means that the producers and writers behind the scenes have had a pretty tremendous opportunity to prepare something that will leave you on the edge and wondering just where things are going to be going moving forward. We do hope that Max’s health isn’t as immediate a concern moving forward, largely because there are clearly so many other issues that could be tackled within this world … and we definitely want to see some of those tackled a little bit further.

Based on the promo (see below), Max is going to have to choose between his wife and his baby at the end of this — and that could prove devastating.
