Shadowhunters season 3 episode 19 preview: Jace goes undercover

Next week on Shadowhunters season 3 episode 19, you’re going to see a tricky situation for Jace — or, we should say that “tricky” doesn’t even cut it. This is a situation where his life as he knows it could be torn asunder by choices that he makes.

Entering this episode, the character is desperate to save Clary. He knows that she is being slowly overtaken by Jonathan to the point where she is no longer fully herself. These are desperate times, and that does call for desperate measures. He’s going to have to do enough in order to create a distraction while some of his friends back at the Institute work to ensure that her bond with Jonathan is severed forever. It’s going to be difficult, and there could be even more pain before the light at the end of the tunnel finally surfaces. Yet, don’t some of these characters have to try at least something?

To try and save Clary from Jonathan, Jace goes undercover. Back at the Institute, Isabelle, Simon and Luke race to find a way to finally destroy Clary’s bond with Jonathan. With time running out, can Isabelle create the solution before Jace’s cover is blown?

While we’re certainly intrigued by everything in regards to Jace and Clary next week, we remain both intrigued and extremely invested in all things pertaining to Alec and Magnus, even if they are not mentioned in this synopsis at all. What gives with that? Consider it mostly a function of the fact that Freeform probably didn’t want to spoil anything at the time this synopsis was written. They recognized that there were a number of big secrets that they were still waiting to unleash, but they were not a point where they could unleash them … especially since they are so painful.

Entering this episode, we have to expect that Alec and Magnus’ relationship is going to be in tatters after Alec’s decision to break up with him. He feels like that’s best in order to bring his magic back, but we certainly feel a little bit otherwise. As a matter of fact, we know that there are some better courses of action and ways for this character’s future to be turned around. We just have to hope that Alec either comes to his senses or something transpires with Asmodeus that brings these two together soon.
