Criminal Minds season 15 progress report: How far along is filming?

Criminal Minds season 13

Criminal Minds season 15 is the final run of the show on CBS, and we’re not going to lie — we’re already getting quite emotional about it. This is a show that’s been around close to half our lives, so it’s really one of those that is weird to imagine not being a part of the modern-day television world.

We certainly recognize that we’re lucky — we’ve had 14 seasons’ worth of new episodes already, and we know that there are still ten more coming. We wish that this ten was thirteen, fifteen, or even a full 22, but it’s still nice to be able to see more installments coming up in any form. We also know now that there aren’t too many more days of production left.

In a new post on Twitter, executive producer Harry Bring noted that there are only 19 days of production left before the show says goodbye. 19. That’s a hard number to swallow given that by the time the summer is here, the cast will be done. They can move on to other projects, or just take a nice break for a while — something that Bring himself suggests he is looking forward to. After spending so many long work days for most of the year working on this show, everyone may be looking for a chance to experience what having a little bit of free time is like.

What we know about this final season story-wise is that it’s meant to be a little bit more serialized than what we’re used to getting from this show. There will be a unified Big Bad in Everett Lynch, who you met near the end of last season, and there will be some other long-term stories including the aftermath of what happened with Reid and JJ at the end of this past season. Rachel Leigh Cook is going to be appearing in an arc as a possible new Reid love interest, so he’s clearly going to have options. Beyond that, Jane Lynch will also be back as his mother, and we’re pretty hopeful that we’ll get some personal stuff for the other BAU members and have a chance to revisit some of their own families.

Hopefully, the series finale will be a celebration of what makes Criminal Minds the show that it’s been — an intense, heart-pounding thriller sure, but also a show that celebrates these heroes and also the sense of community that they’ve found in each other. Hopefully, we’ll see this final chapter formally begin this summer.
