The Code episode 2 preview: What’s next for Luke Mitchell, cast?

The code

Following tonight’s premiere, The Code episode 2 is coming back to CBS next week — and, to go along with that, a new time. Tonight’s premiere was meant to be an opportunity to put the show’s name in lights and give viewers a chance to check it out … but it won’t be permanently located in this spot. FBI is going to be airing here for the remainder of the season and as we press onward, The Code is going to be shipped off to Monday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

Is that a tough timeslot for it? Well, the obvious downside is that you don’t have that super lead-in magic that you’ve got when you’re airing after NCIS. On the flip side, you are airing alongside another legal show in Bull and there is a certain degree of synergy there between the two. CBS really just needs to count on some solid viewership — it doesn’t have to be through the roof to get renewed, and we do think it’s going to have a good shot. This is basically viewer-bait for a lot of the different things CBS loves — the military, intense cases, and a procedural format with memorable characters. It’s also got Dana Delany, a character popular with many older viewers, and then also Luke Mitchell, a man extremely popular with younger ones through his work on Agents of SHIELD and Blindspot.

Everything is set up, even with the new timeslot, for The Code to have a good run — it’ll just be up to the viewers to see if it will.

So what’s the story for what’s coming up? Below, CarterMatt has the official The Code episode 2 synopsis with some additional scoop all about what lies ahead:

“P.O.G.” – Captains John Abraham and Maya Dobbins head to a war zone when they are assigned to opposite sides of the courtroom in the case of Marine charged with abandoning his post during combat, resulting in the deaths of three soldiers. Also, Major Trey Ferry must iron out a diplomatic spat, and Lt. Harper Li works to balance her duties to the Corps with planning her wedding, on THE CODE, Monday, April 15 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

It’s really going to be interesting seeing how much we can get to know these characters in a short period of time, given that we’re not going to have much! That’s what makes stories like what’s going on with Harper and her wedding so important — the writers have to make the most of what time they’ve got, and these characters need to find their way to shout “hey, we’re interesting and not just in a way that makes you think of JAG.” That’s a tough act to follow, even though we are years removed from it airing.
