Fuller House season 5 may not be splitting up Jesse, Aunt Becky
Most of the discussion about the future of these two characters comes courtesy of a Screen Rant article from earlier this week, one suggesting that there was some big-time trouble in paradise for these two characters in the wake of Lori Loughlin’s arrest. They added a lot of detail in there, whether it be John Stamos’ episode count to even “quotes” about why the decision was made from a producer. There were a couple of things fishy about the article, namely that there were no other sources out there about it to also Stamos’ reported season 5 episode count being as high as it was. Jesse typically appears on a small handful of Fuller House episodes a season — there’s no real need to include him in more than that since this story is mostly about DJ, Kimmy, and Stephanie than it is some of the adults from the original show.
Ultimately, Screen Rant eventually updated their story saying that it was an April Fools’ joke, which we get because April Fools’ Day is the sort of time you can do stuff like this. Yet, let’s also throw this out there: Is the best kind of April Fools’ joke the kind that people are going to legitimately believe and then get upset over? CarterMatt prefers our April Fools’ jokes to be a little more on the obviously-fake-but-it’s-really-funny side, such as the idea of NCIS getting renewed through season 40 while CBS subsequently orders a spin-off series set in Topeka.
So, if Jesse and Becky do get divorced, there’s no actual evidence of it online. Take that for what you will. Because Loughlin isn’t a series regular on this show, we don’t think cutting her is all too dramatic an issue. We feel like the way the writers will probably handle this is just by cutting her out of the upcoming episodes (which weren’t even written entirely at the time of her arrest) and then saying that she’s off somewhere on work. You don’t have to ruin this relationship just because Lori isn’t appearing on the show. We get wanting to move away from a certain performer because of their legal issues, but remember that there’s a difference between Lori Loughlin and Becky the character. It’s also like there’s a difference between the Olsen Twins and the character of Michelle. That’s why we’re glad that the Fuller House writers haven’t spent every season harping on Michelle’s absence and making it seem like they are punishing the character because the Olsen’s don’t want to act on television anymore.
When the dust settles around the family’s San Francisco home, we feel like this show will continue to be as it’s always been — silly at times, heartfelt at others, and with an ending that makes you want to get together with your family and celebrate having them in your life.
