The Flash season 5 episode 18 teases: Quiet on the Godspeed front

Flash season 4

Want to know some of what’s coming on The Flash season 5 episode 18? There’s a good chance that you know already that “Godspeed” is the title. However, you may also wonder why in the world is being so quiet on the central subject.

Think about it — Godspeed is a signature DC Comics villain, and there are already set photos of that character online. If you wanted him to be a secret to end all secrets, why in the world would you name the episode after him? Why aren’t you showcasing him anywhere? Think about it — it’s really quite the strange conundrum! The character is not featured in the promo that is out there for this episode, and nor is he mentioned in the attached synopsis:

DANIELLE PANABAKER DIRECTS – After discovering that Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) is working with Thawne (Tom Cavanagh), Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) disagree about how to handle their daughter in the wake of this shocking news. Team Flash isn’t sure they can trust Nora, so they go through her journal to find out exactly how she came to work alongside their greatest nemesis. Danielle Panabaker directed the episode written by Judalina Neira & Kelly Wheeler (#518). Original airdate 4/16/2019.

This episode, regardless of the network’s strange stance on Godspeed promotion, should be fascinating mostly as a journey through time. We don’t necessarily mean that Barry is literally venturing into the future; yet, he may start to retrace some of Nora’s footsteps and figure out how Eobard got a hold of his daughter in the first place. It’s almost an origin story for this key part of the story, which could become increasingly important leading up to the finale.

As for how Godspeed is involved in all of this, our prevailing theory at the moment is that he’s involved somehow in the arrival of the new Cicada to the present. If that’s the case, though, it doesn’t actually answer another question — why would they want to do this? What’s their goal, and is there some sort of desired endgame here? That’s something that this episode really needs to figure out, and we certainly think that there is a plan. It’s just not one that we are entirely privy to at the moment.

We’ve noted this before, but our principal hope going into this episode is that it establishes Godspeed as almost a possible Big Bad threat for the sixth season — he’s far too iconic a speedster to just use once and then throw in a dumpster to never see again. (We know Red Death is a possibility to, but we don’t think that season 6 of The Flash is going to be the final one — not in the slightest.)
