TV Madness 2019: Absentia, Lucifer square off in round 3!
In this edition of round 3, we have another upset to reveal! Absentia has overtaken The Blacklist, which means shockingly that Outlander is currently the only #1 seed left in the running. That does open the door for many other possible outcomes in this tournament, and today Absentia is going to be squaring off with another favorite — and a pretty formidable one — in Lucifer, looking to make its first-ever appearance in the final four. This one should be fun!
If you’ve taken part in CarterMatt’s TV Madness before, you likely know how this works — we spotlight the two competitors and then, on the other side of it, give you a poll for you to commence your voting! The poll is located at the bottom of this article.
How voting works – Vote however often you would like! (Technical instructions for multiple voting can be found right above the poll.) We will keep this poll open until Tuesday, March 26 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. The winner here will face off against one of four other shows currently taking part in Last Man Standing, Manifest, Blue Bloods, and Grey’s Anatomy. Some of those shows are still taking part, so we have to wait and see what’ll happen!
You can see the full bracket (including start dates for each individual round) in the graphic at the top of this article.
The competitors
Absentia (#5 seed) – Even though the Stana Katic series may be somewhat under-the-radar for a lot of viewers here in America, it has certainly made a name for itself all over the world with passionate fans, great performances, and of course a super-cool, hyper-intense style like no other. It’s dark, it’s gritty, and it’s thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. There’s a sense of action and drama that courses through every scene as you get immersed into the deep, dark corners of Emily Byrne’s world.
Absentia was the Cinderella of TV Madness 2018, making it all the way to the final four that year before eventually losing out to Timeless. It’s got a chance to return there now, but will it be able to climb the particularly-tough mountain that lies ahead? The next few days will make that clear.
Lucifer (#2 seed) – While the Tom Ellis series hadn’t made it to the higher rounds of TV Madness before, our hopes were high entering the tournament this year and for good reason. We’ve seen an infusion of Lucifer-related passion like no other over the past eleven or so months since the series’ original cancellation, and that’s caused us to see a uniting of the fans we rarely have a chance to experience. This show, time and time again, gives its viewers the chance to celebrate — a fantastically-biting sense of humor, smart characters, and a stellar sense of imagination. It also just survived an incredibly-tough showdown against CBS’ SEAL Team, which came out and delivered one of the most impressive round 2 finishes of a show not advancing.
Let’s also not overlook a couple of things that make Chicago PD stand out — its epic crossover potential and one of the more robust ‘shipping communities out there, especially when you think about the sheer number of options that these characters have with the other One Chicago shows. It’s a serious show, but one with a fun community. We’re stoked to see what happens here!
