TV Madness 2019: Last Man Standing, Manifest square off in round 2!
In this showdown, we have what we consider to be a fascinating showdown between recently-revived comedy Last Man Standing (a show with a tremendous swell of round 1 voting) and then also a newcomer to TV this year in Manifest, which supplanted itself among one of the medium’s most thought-provoking shows. Both have a lot to be excited about ratings-wise (though shockingly, neither has been renewed as of yet for another season), and if you’re at this article looking to vote for one of the two shows, there’s a good chance that you already enjoy them creatively. Yet, only one can make it to our version of the Elite Eight!
If you’ve taken part in CarterMatt’s TV Madness before, you likely know how this works — we spotlight the two competitors and then, on the other side of it, give you a poll for you to commence your voting! The poll is located at the bottom of this article.
How voting works – Vote however often you would like! (Technical instructions for multiple voting can be found right above the poll.) We will keep this poll open until Saturday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. Whoever wins this showdown will be facing off against one of four possible contenders — MacGyver, Blue Bloods, Grey’s Anatomy, or Mayans MC. All four of those shows are still competing in round 1; voting will conclude for them below.
You can see the full bracket (including start dates for each individual round) in the graphic at the top of this article.
The competitors
Last Man Standing (#8 seed) – The Tim Allen comedy did something in round 1 that has not been done since TV Madness 2017 — topple a #1 seed in the first round! It’s actually only been done twice, when Supergirl defeated Game of Thrones that year and when Call the Midwife managed to overtake The Walking Dead. That speaks a lot to Last Man Standing fans and their passion for this show, which they are largely responsible for getting back on the air in the first place.
This show has already toppled a worthy challenger in Poldark in round one — while the British drama failed to reach the same level of votes it has in past years, it was still a challenging adversary for Last Man Standing to look in the eye. Here, it’s got a formidable foe in an upstart show completely steeped in intrigue.
Manifest (#4 seed) – Meanwhile, here we have a case of a freshman sensation! Manifest had a pretty decisive victory in the first round, and we cannot say that we’re altogether surprised when you think about what it’s bringing to the table here. Think in terms of a strong central mystery, great characters, and writing that is meant to constantly make you ask questions no matter where you turn. We’re one season in, and now we’re left until most likely the fall to wonder what is next.
For Manifest, it’s gotta be considered the underdog moving into round 2, even with the higher seeding. Last Man Standing had more total votes in round 1, but in the world of CarterMatt’s TV Madness, there is almost always a state of flux and just a couple of votes can make a huge difference. It’s like Manifest in that way, when just a select few can impact the lives of many.
