Is Saturday Night Live new tonight? Mapping out upcoming shows

Saturday Night Live review

Is Saturday Night Live new tonight on NBC? Within this article, we’re putting a spotlight on this question … and also discuss some more of what’s coming around the bend.

Let’s go ahead and get the sad news out of the way now — we don’t want to make you wait, and it’s better off in this instance to just drop the hammer. There is no new episode of the series coming up on NBC tonight, and you can say the same thing for next week. Consider this a standard SNL hiatus, something that we do have a tendency to get around this time of the year without fail. March is often the doldrums of the broadcast TV season, with many networks taking a breather and allowing either some shows to bank some episodes or to give casts a chance for a quick break.

Somewhere, we’re sure that the SNL team is already thinking about ideas for their next show on March 30 — below, you can see some of our preliminary thoughts about it and the two that follow!

March 30 – Sandra Oh is the most and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it! Oh is a brilliant performer, one of the rare few who has appeared in two iconic shows in Grey’s Anatomy and also Killing Eve in equally-iconic roles. We’ve also learned from the past year in between the Emmys and the Golden Globes just how funny she can be. Without those opportunities, who knows if she would’ve gotten this gig? We know that Andy Samberg is a busy guy these days with Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but it would be rather nice if he did turn up for a cameo at some point during this show.

April 6 – Here, you will be seeing Kit Harington host for the first time! We know that he can be funny, but this is obviously a different environment than we’ve seen from him. Be prepared for some Jon Snow spoofing and some Game of Thrones chatter, given that this show will debut just over a week ahead of the final season’s debut. If there are no cameos from co-stars, we are going to be disappointed. (On the wishlist: An appearance from his real-life spouse Rose Leslie for the return of Ygritte!)

April 13 – Finally, Emma Stone is returning to the show! She’s fantastic on SNL and has been on a number of occasions. She’s one of those people who grew up idolizing the series and seems primed to make the most of it every time that she steps into the studio. It’s hard to say that there are any specific expectations for her this time around — just go out and be funny. (We’ve said this before and it’s interesting, given her star power — there’s almost more buzz right now in the musical guest in BTS.)
