Lethal Weapon alum Clayne Crawford sets TV return on Hulu
Almost a year removed from his dismissal on Lethal Weapon, it appears as though Clayne Crawford has a new TV home.
As first confirmed via TVLine, the actor is set to appear in Hulu’s Into the Dark, a 12-part anthology series built of movie-length episodes. A recent one was directed by Psych star James Roday, and was themed around International Women’s Day. Crawford’s episode is entitled “They Come Knocking,” and is themed around Father’s Day. As for his role, he is a recent widower who takes his two daughters on a road trip. On the surface, this sounds sweet … but then you remember that this is a horror anthology series and almost everything is going to probably descend right on into hell.
What happens to these characters? Think along the lines of “terrifying supernatural entities” — that of course can mean anything and everything. (Basically, just imagine anything that you’ve seen on Supernatural over the years.) Josephine Langsford, Robyn Lively, Lia McHugh and Dwight Hicks round out the cast for “They Come Knocking.”
Crawford took his time following his Lethal Weapon exit deciding on a new TV role, and we’ll be curious to hear him speak a little bit more about that over time. He’s already discussed what happened on the Fox series, as have a number of other people who were a part of it. The best thing that he and everyone else can do at this point is try to move forward, and that is what Into the Dark represents more to us than anything. What happens with Clayne’s career after this remains to be seen — if he wants another series-regular role on a TV show, things could open up over the summer, even after pilot season is done. That would just come down to whether or not a show is interested in him and, in turn, whether or not he thinks that a role is right for him.
Some of Clayne’s other major TV credits include Rectify (probably some of his best-known work beyond playing Riggs), Rogue, and NCIS: New Orleans.
Lethal Weapon recently wrapped its third season on Fox; an official decision on its future is going to be coming around by the time we get to May, but for now “on the bubble” seems to be the right way to describe it.
As for when you can expect “They Come Knocking” to (fittingly) come knocking on Hulu, June is probably the best overall guess to make, given the subject matter. Expect some more news over the next month or two.
