Blue Bloods season 9 episode 16 review: Frank’s Sid conflict; Jamie, Eddie threatened
This brings us to the case of Doug Lynch, an NYPD detective who shot a man while at a convenience store. Was it justified? It may have been, but that didn’t turn out to be the primary issue here — instead, it was Lynch trying to hid a condition that may have made him unfit to have a badge and gun, and then it was Gormley’s attempts to try and protect a longtime friend. Frank was unhappy with that — in particular, he was unhappy with the way in which he lied and misinterpreted the case.
Yet, if Frank is any one thing, he’s loyal — loyal to those who wear the badge with him, and those who fight alongside him in this office. Frank still decided to help Doug out and give him early retirement. Even if he was not fit to serve anymore, he still did do good work for the NYPD as a whole.
Jamie and Eddie find themselves in a bind
Someone decided to sabotage the two professionally, and that led to Eddie having to deal with Internal Affairs while Jamie was forced to take on disparaging language. Eventually, the two were able to identify the responsible party here in Vorhees. He had an ax to grind against them and was ready and willing to do anything and everything that he could in order to ensure that their careers were over.
Why was he even out on the street? That’s something that Eddie blew up on Erin about, with Jamie voicing his displeasure in equal measure. She didn’t love the fact that Erin seemingly handed off the case to another ADA when really, she was just trying to do her job in the only way that she really knew how. It wasn’t something that Jamie and Eddie liked, but that’s just the way of it.
The problem is that as the episode went along, Vorhees was intent on causing MORE problems — and in turn, making life impossible for the two of them. He event went to the precinct to file a formal complaint. This wasn’t good, but the more Vorhees made things public, the more Eddie came up with a new theory — maybe this wasn’t Vorhees at all. Maybe he actually was just some raving man who was caught up in the middle of everything.
As it turns out, it was actually his sister who was responsible. She wanted Vorhees to take off and get out of her life, and framing him for a revenge plan was the easiest way to do that.
What’s happening with Anthony?
As it turns out, he may have a secret sibling in Leo … or at least one who claimed he was such. There were some major problems with this, though, including his ties to organized crime and also the fact that he was just coming out now. Why pop up out of the woodwork at this point? Was there something that he had to gain?
Leo was actually good in helping Anthony take down the crime syndicate, and it turns out that the DNA proved that the two were related. That’s great for Anthony … but Leo’s still got a past. That’s something that they are going to have to work on if they’re meant to have a good relationship down the road.
Danny and Baez’s case
This was a murder case (of course), one where our intrepid detectives had to try and solve a case with very little evidence. One of the only sources that they had was the daughter of the victim, but she proved to be more harmful than beneficial to the case. As a matter of fact, she was able to completely distract her while she plotted on her own.
It was actually the daughter herself who was responsible for what happened, seemingly with the help of her boyfriend. That’s why they were interested in celebrating before Danny and Baez showed up with the handcuffs.
CarterMatt Verdict
We’d like to say that this Blue Bloods episode delivered on all counts, and we do think for the most part it, it did! Having Sid at the center of a Frank storyline was a nice change of pace, and we’d say that for most of the other storylines, at least there were compelling twists. Was the daughter at the center of Danny and Baez’s storyline a little too obvious as the killer? Probably, but we’ll let that slide for now.
