Siren season 2 episode 8 (spring finale) video: Mermaids with blowtorches
You watch this show for the big moments, the ones that generate conversation and leave you talking for weeks and months on end and given that all you’re going to have once this episode ends is talk we are expecting some really big moments. The good news is that there are eight more episodes eventually coming. The bad news is that they’re not coming any time soon. You’re gonna be waiting a good while.
Before we go further, can we spend a minute talking about the ridiculousness of midseason finale terminology? We’ve heard it all lately for so many different shows — winter finale, summer finale, fall finale, spring finale. They all are just kind of thrown together like word soup leaving you with a less-than-desirable taste. We wish that networks would just use midseason finale since that gets the point across without having to rely on whatever time of the year it is (Remember, it’s not technically even spring yet.!). It’s can be confusing for viewers, so can everyone just get on the same page already?
Okay, let’s get back to actually talking about the episode for a minute, because there are some important things to talk about — it’s not as flashy as just saying “mermaids with blowtorches,” but it still works. That in itself is actually a part of the larger plan that many of the characters have to stop the oil company in the midst of a fancy gala — they’ve finally figured out a way to capture their attention with a big statement, but sometimes your plans don’t work out like you imagine. Sometimes it just sends the world into further chaos. For more, check out the Siren season 2 episode 8 synopsis:
Mermaids and humans join forces in a radical plan to stop the oil company, but their efforts have a devastating effect. And facing an uncertain future, Ben, Maddie and Ryn come together for a romantic farewell.
Even if the entire plan with the blowtorches and the gala goes completely awry (and it probably will), it’s obvious still worthwhile when you’ve got mermaids desperate to get back in the water. It’s a cost-benefit sort of situation. There’s very little benefit about being grounded on land since it’s going to continue to make them sick and the tank they have been using for transformation is now also making them sick, so it’s worth causing a calamity to get their home back.
For us watching at home, this is all mostly worthwhile because you want to get a big cliffhanger at the end of this, something that generates even more hype for the second part of the season. For the record, we know that there will be something coming in the cliffhanger department — Rena Owen told CarterMatt that very thing in a recent interview – you can check that out here.
Most likely event to make you cry
“Ben, Maddie and Ryn come together for a romantic farewell”. We know that Ryn sacrificed herself by agreeing to let the military study her and in exchange they would get Ben and his friends out of jail and drop all investigation into Sean’s death. The military came through, and now Ryn is going to honor her part of the bargain. We expect Ben and Maddie to be devastated by the news when they find out especially since the three of them have have their relationship growing in a very romantic way. We’ve seen them all exchange kisses in front of each other and all of them agree that when the time is right that they would all like to make love. Is this going to be that time?
